Hey, what's going on, everybody?
Welcome to another addicted fishing podcast.
I am sitting in here with Mr.
Jason Harmsen from steel obsession.
Guys.
So I want to say that every time it's going to be the soft steel obsession.
So guys, what's up?
And we've got Conan from filet away.
And, uh, we got him in here today to do a little live feed talk.
And, uh, but we just figured we'd do a little podcast, but we've got some
super exciting things that are going to be hitting the shop.
And by the time you guys are hearing this, everyone's already going to
be eyeballing the black Friday.
Uh, you know, tis the season.
Yeah.
You're not supposed to talk about Christmas, Thanksgiving, but the reality
is, is we're all kind of thinking about it and giving, we've just got some
ideas here, we kind of run, want to run through and give people an idea
on really cool tips to buy.
I actually did some Christmas shopping actually while I was down in the shop.
Really for yourself?
No.
For my mom.
Oh, okay.
Well, my sister, my sister ratted her out.
So on something actually that my mom.
Needed from the addicted shop.
Oh, come on.
Guess Snips, Snips, Snips, Snips.
No, no.
The coffee, the, the coffee cups, the mugs, we sell these really big mugs and
she, they are, they are really nice mugs.
Yeah.
They are.
Cause you actually get like two cups of coffee.
Yeah.
Like a real man cup.
Right.
But she lives down at the beach.
So everything is, you know, that, that, that baby blue and that gray and just
all the beach colors, but we sell those Robin eggs, but, and they're like,
they're called Robin eggs too.
And, and they got, you know, splatter.
There's those little black addicted on it.
She loved her other bugs.
So she's like, I want a set of those mugs.
She's like, tell Cameron, give me a set of those mugs.
So I went down this morning or this morning.
The hell am I talking about?
It is morning because I fished today, went home, took a nap.
Ah, you're on the nap program.
41 years old.
I'm on the nap program.
Anytime I can sneak in a nap after a day of fishing.
I'm all for it.
I've got my a Mac card now.
I'm practically like three years standard retirement.
I I'm there, man.
I feel it.
So she, after Rowan, I only could get like a half day of the shoulder hurts.
No, okay.
No.
So I took a nap, got here to the shop before we filmed the podcast.
And I bought five mugs.
No, those mugs are legit.
I have one.
Um, Mr.
Clint put a flay away logo on it and it is my favorite cup.
It is a good, a good idea for a gift for the season.
Right?
Yes, yes, yes.
No, but so we've got a lot of really cool things in the shop and I've, and I'm just
going to say it now because chances are, if you guys follow along, this is actually
going to be a big deal, but we can now officially say, say.
That we have backpacks.
They are here in store.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, we have finally delivered 200, 100 of each
100 reds and the 100 blacks of our backpacks.
And I'm hoping by the time you hear this, Clint has actually gotten this out to
warn you guys, because we're going to announce it on the live feed tonight and
they'll probably we've gone and it will probably be another damn fricking year
till must have finally gets off their butt and gets us and get some more.
I'm not leaving tonight without one.
Those are, yeah, you're going to have to go down to the shop.
Cause I've taken that black one underneath that one.
Yeah, they do look pretty sweet.
That's no good.
Well, sorry, Jason, you are so well, you know, Mike locked the, that's all right.
I got, I got a prototype one.
Yeah.
So we've got our new, uh, backpacks.
I hope they're available.
Hope that you guys can get them.
Um, you know, at the end of the day, they, we spent so much fricking
time R and D in these things.
And it's kind of funny that like we've spent two years sitting there and
now I'm actually staring at them.
So if we actually have them to sell now and I haven't even able to get to
take one of the new ones out, but, uh, yeah, we've got them there in their
great gift idea, if for some reason you're listening to this, you know, drop
the hints to mom, dad, brother, sister, wife, anybody who has the potential
to give you a gift, you know,
anybody who you might be getting gifts, drop a hint, tell them to go to addicted
dot fishing and swipe up one of the backpacks.
They are bad-ass for any of you guys, any traveling fishermen and you guys
stomping banks and I'm going to, you can, you can fit a lot of gear in it.
Those are huge.
Like, yeah, I mean, you can, you can fit pretty much everything that you're
going to need for spinner fishing, uh, bobber fishing, eggs, beads, all
different types and then whatever else you can think of in there.
I mean, there's a lot of room in there.
Yeah.
The size of it.
I can't, I don't know like what leader.
Is it a 40 leader?
Yeah, that's a thank you.
Producer Clint.
It's a good size bag.
I mean, like I said, you can fit a lot of stuff in there.
You're going to be able to take that day back and there's a lots of good
zippers, waterproof zippers, water bottles, nets, jars, cell phone,
hand roll top to roll top.
So in case you, uh, Jordan or Cameron it, or Jason, it even, well, you, you
don't flip your app, you just jump out of it, but in case any of those things
happen, uh, you'll have all your gear protected and floating down the river.
Dry bag.
Yeah.
So shoot.
And then I have to knock on wood.
Anytime anybody says that, because I still, I have it and it's you will
don't say that it's just a matter of time.
And you know, we don't want to go off on a tangent on that.
Okay.
Yeah.
Cause that is, that's totally something that you could talk
about an hour about easily.
Yeah.
That'll be the next podcast.
There we go.
Uh, as we get into winter time and stuff like that, but come in here, brought
in, as you walked up our flights of stairs, four giant, four big old boxes
of flyaway, that's right.
Flyaway fish mats.
And that'd be a great addition to that bag as well.
Because when you're out fishing, true, you could very true, easily
stuff one of those flame that's in there.
You get your fillet knife.
Well, the nice thing about those two is like, if you're, if you plan to stay
at a spot for a while and fish it for a while, you can use that to not lose gear.
And if you don't have like a flat rock or something around that, you can
just lay out a bunch of stuff, you know, you can lay out a couple of different
things, be okay, here, I got my gear for that, right.
They'll just hold everything in place and they'll, they'll sit on any surface.
And it's funny you said, because we always use like, you know, you always
bring us, you know, sample flyaway mats and we go and we always use them for
like flaying a salmon live or doing bait live or killing a sturgeon live or any
of that, well, then I always have to take that stuff home because I have to
clean it up here in the studio and freaking that we don't really have the
ability to clean here.
Let's just say that.
So you might have a few, I've got a few extras.
Well, I have one, I have one in my raft that I, that I do all my like, um, I
have this like tote in my raft and I was like, I always take the eggs out and I
always put it on the lid of the raft and then I always have to scrub it.
I'm like, Oh, the lid, the lid of the, okay.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Just basically my dry storage.
And so I'm like, wait, just take the flyaway mat and set it on there and
then just do your eggs at the end, just take it and just rinse it off.
Oh, it only took me like two years to figure that out, but it was awfully
convenient.
Now the last two trips have been fantastic.
I don't even have to worry about that.
That's cool.
So another use for the old flyaway mat for prepping bait, opening baits, eggs,
and, and also too, if it rains a little bit, like instead of having like a
container where like your eggs, then like collect water or collect like more
goop or whatever, like you can actually take the little balls, eggs and put
them on little spikes and it'll kind of drain off and dry a little bit.
Yeah.
And it kind of hangs up off of the water.
It actually works really good.
That's cool.
Again, it's easy to clean.
So, but I mean, I, we use, so the other two of the mats ended up in my kitchen.
Of course, I've got a few of them laying around.
Um, and then, uh, yeah, of course, obviously with the boats and any, so any
of the fishermen in your life, um, who are going to prep gear, if you're going
to, you know, cut fish up for smoking and you're going to do all that, it
protects the knives, it makes it non-slip super easy to clean up.
It works great on your kitchen counters.
Great on the cooler.
Great on a rock.
Great on your fillet table.
Um, fly away fish mats.
You can't say enough about them.
I got a really nice guy.
He knows the pitch.
Yeah.
And you really can't have too many of them.
Just my buddy has a drift boat and he actually wanted a few more and he's like,
dude, I'm just going to sit on these.
I was like, what are you talking about?
Well, instead of sitting there on his seat and get, it gets all wet and whatnot.
It just like he said, it's like a cushion and it creates a dry
surface that's always dry.
Okay.
Probably a little grip too.
Right.
Well, I could slap the crap out of somebody with one.
That's kind of, it's got a handle.
You get very true.
Very true.
I bet they make great bartender mats.
Cause that's already what they kind of look like.
Oh yeah.
Yeah.
They kind of, yeah.
There you go.
And you have the green ones coming and more green ones coming to more green
holidays.
No, sweet.
Nice.
That's right.
Yeah.
I mean, yeah.
RJ uses them all the time for cutting up his animals.
Oh dude.
Absolutely.
Like anything that I'm going to make like a lot of cuts in, in that, that
mat comes out, I think it's even better than like a cutting board just on your
knife, on your knife points and everything too.
So anyways, fly away fish mats.
What are you, so what are you thinking?
Like if, what are you thinking for Christmas gift ideas, something people
don't think about too often, like the mats, the backpacks, the coffee mugs.
I mean, obviously gift cards to addicted.
Fishing are always good.
True, true.
Which you know, I, I always think that it's something small, but a leaderboard
leaderboards, I love getting leaderboards.
It's so nice.
And if you have one, you got to fill it literally.
Yeah.
And then, so then that whoever you're giving them to then needs more leaderboards.
Yeah.
All the time.
It's never, and they're great because they, they never go, I mean, you can't go
wrong with too many leaders, right?
No, for sure.
I was thinking too, like, you know, those gifts that like, you don't think like,
you know, tackle and stuff, but I mean, any kind of gloves, true liners, like
going down to, um, honestly Harbor freight, like they have a little glove
lighters and we put the little soft knit glove liners and then the big gloves over
it, like for the fishermen in your life, Fisherman or Fisherwoman, if they have
cold hands, I still want to fish.
Like, I don't care what anybody says.
Those are the best gloves.
That's the best setup you can do for cold water and cold weather and wind.
So like think about definitely an extra layer of, uh, insulation and then one
thing, and then another idea that just came to mind since we're talking about
all those, like other things for like the Fisherman or Fisherwoman in your life.
And this has nothing to do with us, but I ordered, um, for recharge, a client of
mine, uh, about two weeks ago came out in the boat and it was kind of a cold, wet,
rainy day.
And he's like, Oh, my hands are great.
Cause he had a, he's telling his buddy, he had a rechargeable hand warmer.
Oh, I was going to say hand was a rechargeable one.
How rechargeable are they?
Kind of like a, they're like a rubber rubber sides on them, but they're like a
little plastic thing.
I mean, you know, they're smaller than like a cell phone, a little fit.
I mean, they're thicker, but they're smaller than a cell phone.
Um, I bought four of them because I'm like, you know what?
I'm going to be able to hand these two clients.
You can turn them on, turn them off.
They work as a battery pack.
That's cool.
And they actually do get warm super fast and they last a super long time.
So it's like one of those things where we had a bass tournament on Sunday.
I'm in the gorge.
It was snowing on the hills.
It was absolutely terrible.
Whoa.
That was efficient.
It was good.
Really?
It's good.
I got my biggest, I got my biggest.
Oh, we won.
And I caught a five and I caught a five.
10 minutes left for the day.
Wow.
Another story.
Another time.
Cool.
Bottom line is that was the first day I had them and I was telling Tom, I'm like,
I'm going to bring a hand warmer.
And so like halfway through the day, my hands are just done.
Even with the liners.
I mean, it was like, it was brutal and it's like tournament fishing.
So you're not just sitting there with your hands in your pocket.
And Tom does not drive the bass boat slow.
We were going 72 pretty much everywhere in pouring rain.
It was snowing 200 feet above us on the hills.
It was flipping, one of those, like you're going to put your hand in your
pockets, you're going to go to hole to hole.
No, no, not, not tournament fishing.
So the moral of the story is if you have hand warmers, you will catch your PBS.
I guess.
Oh, there we go.
Yes, exactly.
Well, actually, you know, we gotta, we gotta be smarter about that.
We gotta say something like if you have a flyaway fish mat in your boat, then
you'll catch your PBS because we don't sell the hand warmers, but has rechargeable.
Hand warmers.
And they, and what's cool about them is they can get a little wet, but I did
put them in plastic bags, especially on that bastard Monday, because that was
it rained a lot, three inches, but you can turn them on and they heat up fast.
And they, I left one on and it was on for on high for six, seven
hours before it finally died.
Oh, wow.
And still putting out good heat.
You don't, but I don't even think you do that.
I think you, you keep it in your waiter pocket and turn it on, you know, hold a
hole.
If you turn it off, you're going to get three days out of these things, right?
So really good.
And honestly, so I bought three for my boat and I bought one for my wife.
So when she goes to the sporting events and stuff like that, man, that's, that's
a good, uh, that's a good gift idea.
Yeah.
And now, now no more excuses from clients throwing fricking bobber setups
into trees, looking for steelhead.
My hands are cold.
I can't feel the line.
Use a hand warmer.
There you go.
Yeah, that's a good one.
Rechargeable hand warmers, electric socks, like heated socks.
Really?
Yes.
I didn't even know they made the, I, uh, I haven't toyed with them, but I
definitely, I had one set about two years ago with the remote.
Yeah.
And my buddies up North live by them.
Kalen.
Yeah.
Kalen says they're literally the best things in the game.
I, yeah, I can't remember which ones he said he got, but he's like, dude, you run
them on medium and you get like eight hours out of them and they're solid.
These are solid gift ideas.
Cause these are the kinds of things that a guy will use.
Yeah.
Any, anybody, any out, I mean, anybody that's
and coincidentally, we did have our first frost of the year.
So you guys are looking for some great gift ideas.
Hopefully we added some input.
