This just took another turn...
Jul 17, 2026
Things have taken another turn for the Toronto Raptors as more reports have come out following Adam Silver's
Comments in the NBA Board of Governors meeting that happened a couple days ago
We do have some new insights in terms of what the timeline is for Kawhi Leonard some of the latest developments and why the Toronto
Raptors are not
super worried about the big bombshells that dropped from Shams from Adam Silver over the past couple of days because
Things are looking bleak out there for Kawhi Leonard and for the LA Clippers in terms of there being a legitimate
Punishment a legitimate penalty for the LA Clippers for Kawhi for someone in his camp because of this aspiration
Debacle that has gone on. It's the only word to describe it
but there are some things that have now come out since Adam Silver's press conference, which is
Taking a weight off of Toronto Raptors fans hearts and you know
Even though there will seemingly be some significant repercussions, you know thrown out to Kawhi thrown out to Adam Silver
It should keep this trade alive things should be positive should be fine for this Raptors team
so we will dive into all the latest updates all the latest reports and why Raptors fans people in the front office aren't as
Worried as some of the comments from Adam Silver, maybe made some Raptors fans feel at least over the past 24 hours
So lots of stuff to dive into but before we do I appreciate all the support we've been getting just crossed the
43,500 milestone inching closer and closer to 44 K
I mean we were just asking for a 42,000 for a long time for a long while
But I appreciate all the new viewers and if you are enjoying the daily Toronto Raptors content twice a day three times a day
We've been delivering it all here on Raptors. I just make sure you enjoy
Make sure you hit that subscribe button. Maybe my camera will stop freezing once once we hit 44k
but let's dive into the news because of course Adam Silver had a lot to say about Kawhi Leonard out there at the NBA Board of
Governors meeting and we do have some new updates from insiders from charms and from you know
People around the league about what is going on with Kawhi
So let's take a look first from Doug Smith as he came out and said that according to multiple NBA sources
When the Raptors had to commit in writing to assume any risk of penalties
The Leonard might incur from the investigation into his Los Angeles Clippers contract
They decided to put a pause on the transaction
So this is a direct response from one of the quotes that basically Adam Silver came out and said, you know
The league didn't stop the trade the league didn't put on pause. They were in calm, you know, they were in conversations
They knew what was going on. He said this the issues were well known to the teams
I don't think any of this information should have taken anyone by surprise
but the reality is
The league tried to come out and basically get the Toronto Raptors to put in writing that they would be on the line
They would be liable for stuff for cap circumvention for illegal scummy stuff the Clippers front office
They would be liable for it. So that of course didn't make any sense
Make sense why Bobby Webster even after doing his due diligence
Even after contacting the NBA and doing what a good front office should as you pursue
you know a top-ten player in the league that is dealing with a lot of baggage as quiet Leonard is if the league's gonna throw
A document at you and be like, okay, you're gonna be liable what?
Suspensions dribble suspensions and stuff for Kawhi. That's all you know
Well and good
But if you're gonna be on the hook for Kawhi's contract for this stuff that you your front office didn't even participate in that your front
office was specifically
affected by out there in 2019
Doesn't make a lick of sense. So it makes sense. Why this your trade was put on pause despite absolutely
Oh the teams knew about it. Why don't they agree to it and they knew about it, right?
So, uh, some people are roasting Doug Smith's, you know takes and reports as of late
You know
I'm definitely standing by with him on this one and he also had this to say the sources granted an
Anonymity to allow them to speak freely about the delay said Tuesday the Raptors
Knowing they might be on the hook for future penalties was one thing but having to sign off on
Formal conditions was enough to make the Toronto Raptors decide
Let's just wait until the probe is completed
So, you know
They knew some stuff was coming probably that a suspension of some sort was coming for Kawhi Leonard and that's all fine
I've stand on this I've stood on this basically, you know, I learned to spend it
Just get some extra run for call Murray boils
You get less of injury risk injury load out there on Kawhi Leonard over the course of the season. It's fine
That's all good
But if you're gonna be right putting in writing your
Organization is going to be you on the line on the hook for some scummy stuff to LA Clippers front office
It doesn't make any sense. So what else are we coming out? What other news is coming out regarding this Kawhi Leonard situation?
well
Shams had some new reports saying that this did come as a surprise to the Toronto Raptors and they will they took the position of
Well, we'll listen if you're telling us that there is a potential risk here. We're going to just wait out this investigation
So technically the deal could have went through so, you know as Doug Smith put it once it was put into writing the Toronto Raptors
We're gonna be on the hook. We're gonna be on the line, you know to that extent
It made sense for the Toronto Raptors to put things on hold
But we did get some positive, you know updates because Adam silver when his quotes and we broke that all this down in the last video
I'm not gonna rehash every single quote that he said but
Indicated we're hopeful. It's done by the end of the offseason. We're not gonna rush it
We're not gonna you know, just push this through over the line, even though this is something that should have been done months ago
You know, he's I I get it
I agree with the league that they shouldn't just you know
Wipe this slate clean just because a trade happened but Adam silver was like, oh, we'll see
Hopefully it's done by the end of the offseason
Well, we do have a good update as Shams revealed that the LA Clippers owner Steve Ballmer met with watchtel Lipton last week
of course law firm that is conducting these investigations in New York City and what is expected to be one of the final steps of
Investigation now
This stuff came out in August last year is Steve Ballmer
Just get meeting these folks like is this is this a step that had to wait 11 months to actually happen
That sounds pretty bonkers seems pretty stupid to me
But you know at least it's happened here right now and then hopefully we can put this to bed as soon as possible
But at least a positive note rather than the ambiguous, you know, well this happened the loopy-doopy stuff
We've been hearing from Adam silver
So we have that but also Josh Bloomberg gave some insight in terms of what the Toronto Raptors from office is feeling out there on
This front for uh, you know with the quiet lighted situation
He had some interesting insight saying that basically a few reasons why the disaster scenario of voiding Kauai's contract is considered highly unlikely
It's first his current contract signed in
2024 isn't under investigation now
I don't know if I agree with this because we did see some reports that came out from
Chomsk, Rania just a couple of days ago that basically or sorry from from the athletic from Mike or
Working off that not only has watched a lip in the league's go-to law from higher for the conduct the inquiry
investigating the circumvention of the NBA salary caps of
Sponsored deal for Kauai Leonard with aspiration
It also is looked into whether the Clippers have improperly covered expenses for Leonard and were not reimbursed for them
Those sources have said and the firm has examinative Leonard has had previously unreported endorsement deal with another company. So
again right now as
Josh Bloomberg put it as he's kind of stating out there with these reports the front office and you know
He's got his ear directly to Bobby Webster the front office
But the one question that is the deal the one in question right now is the deal
He signed in 2021 expired more than a year ago. So his current contract isn't, you know under investigation
There but apparently there are multiple investigations going on beyond the aspiration scandal the tree planting scandal
You know Kauai is Groot, you know happening
So, I don't know how much I align with the thought process on this
Well, there's just some Josh Bloomberg at the front office
but yeah
that's his update there and then also came out and said that even if it's proven Kauai Leonard asked the Clippers for the same things
In 2021 that we know he asked the Toronto Raptors for in 2019 certainly possible if not likely like I've stood on this
I agree with him in full tilt
There's no world Kauai Leonard didn't ask for all that stuff from the LA Clippers as we know he was asking for all that stuff
Or at least uncle Dennis was asking for all that stuff, you know from the Toronto Raptors
He's getting that from LA Clippers
It's probably one of the reasons he went there
But the onus is on the team to say no if the Clippers and by extension Kauai are found guilty
They will take the brunt of the penalty
I mean
I hope he's inferring here like the Raptors of course aren't gonna get the brunt of the penalty for a team that got screwed by
All these you know requests and asks because we decide to uphold the letter of the law and not give Kauai Leonard ownership in
MLC or anything like that. So
Again, these are the takes these are the reports. These are the stuff that's coming out as of late regarding this situation
I want to pose a question to you guys here right now
How on a scale of 1 to 10 how worried are you about this Kauai Leonard trade going through right?
Comment down below 1 being not worried at all 10 believing, you know
The Raptors are not getting Kauai in the offseason this road, you know, there's a chance even if his contract gets voided
He still comes to the Toronto Raptors and honestly, that would be by far the best case scenarios
You get your picks back. You have more roster flexible
You still have Ingram and Dick on the team whether it's trade assets or actual useful players. So they have a lot of options
They have a lot of directions they can go but I want to know what you guys think out there in the comment section
But you guys the best make sure you guys hit that subscribe button again marching towards 44,000 subscribers right now
So appreciate every single one of you. I'm signing out
