I felt fortunate to have seen koalas climbing about in the gum trees in Australia.
I felt even more fortunate to have witnessed what I was about to see.
Koalas are normally lethargic creatures that eat eucalyptus leaves and sleep
much of the day away. Most of their diet consists of eucalyptus leaves.
Koala traffic jam.
They say a rolling stone gathers no moss, but a koala that's sighted gathers a crowd.
When people think of the symbols of Australia they often think of koalas along with kangaroos.
They usually move slowly, if at all, so I was surprised as I watched one koala
creeping toward another as if it had real intent. Supposedly it was a male
and he was feeling a bit frisky as he approached the female hoping to get lucky.
It's a koala fight.
But she wasn't having any part of his advances.
She took several swipes at him and he briefly took a swing at her,
but her right hook sent him reeling and scurrying back down the branches in a hurry.
He must have felt quite dejected and went down a branch to pout and restore some pride.
Something you don't see every day.
No, it's not something you see every day.
It's rare to see an event such as this, so I felt very lucky to have filmed it.
