The San Antonio Spurs are making more and more moves as they have officially rescinded the rights to one of their restricted free agents.
And this does have a bit of a butterfly effect on the Spurs roster construction for this season, especially as it pertains to one fan favorite, David Jones Garcia.
We have to dive into all of that, plus a little note on Jacoby Gillespie, as I know he's been a fan favorite from Summer League 2.
Keenan, the Spurs continue to make moves.
Of course, yesterday, signing Jordan McLaughlin, we dove into the implications that had on the roster and Jacoby Gillespie.
Well, this move today has even more implications on the roster, but we'll get into all that soon.
But I'm just happy to be here in the offseason, Brian Wright continuing to make moves.
And honestly, I like this one today.
They're all definitely things that seem to make the Spurs better.
100 percent. And yes, it's not going to be the, oh, we just traded for this big, massive player in this massive name.
But you have seen time and time again, the 7th through 12th, 13th man on the roster actually mattering in the playoffs.
And so these moves here might seem little now, but as the season goes on and going into the playoffs, it could be something big.
Yeah, this roster space is not something to take for granted.
And we'll dive into the implications a little later.
But first, this video is brought to you by PrizePicks, America's number one sports picks app.

We got some picks coming up for you at the end of the video.
Before we get into Harrison Ingram and David Jones Garcia, I want to just start, you know, just by highlighting Jacoby Gillespie again.
Because I like this tweet from Tom Petrini.
He spoke to Jacoby Gillespie, said he's having fun during an impressive summer league, said this environment is for growing and showing what you can do.
Adds that the Spurs encouraged him to use his voice as a leader at point guard.
So first off, I really like this.
The Spurs clearly have aspirations for Gillespie to play some kind of role as a point guard in the future.
Now, as I mentioned yesterday, the signing of Jordan McLaughlin means it's probably not an immediate thing for a guy like Jacoby Gillespie.
But I think that's totally OK.
Even if Gillespie will probably remain on his two-way deal, again, another thing we'll talk about in a moment,
I think that having McLaughlin around, that kind of veteran guard, and even a guy like Fox around the organization,
could really help Gillespie not only learn how to be a point guard in the NBA, but to find that voice that the Spurs are so keen on already encouraging.
Yeah, and he is one of, he's an older rookie rather than being a guy who was just a one-year guy coming out of college.
And then there, obviously, he played at Tennessee, but he's played at Belmont and Maryland.
So, with a guy like this, you trust the fact that, OK, he's seen a lot more competitive basketball at a higher level.
Because, obviously, your high schoolers will see some high school talent, and then maybe the AAU circuit, and then they'll see some lesser talent.
So, having a guy like this who's been around multiple high-level games, especially last year at Tennessee,
yeah, we trust you to come out here and let's see what you can do.
Can you run a unit? Let's see if you can be in the second unit, maybe.
And you have to run a third-quarter set for us if it's game 26.
Obviously, we're not looking at game 90 and all the playoff games, but maybe a mid-season game.
How can you do that there? And it's going to be nice to see how he adapts and does that on the court.
Leave some love for Jacoby Gillespie down below, because I agree with all that.
And he's just a fun guy. Like, you know, not that guy. No, not that guy.
But he's another type of fun guy. He's fun to watch. He's fun to...
We got a bit of both here. We got some Malik Brown and Jacoby Gillespie.
I'll let this run. Some Malik Brown assists for a second, but we'll get to Gillespie in a moment.
But, yeah, just some fun stuff going on with the San Antonio Spurs.
But one not-so-fun thing, as you're probably watching these highlights, I think it's still actually Malik Brown.
Maybe it won't get to Gillespie. But that's okay. Yeah, it's just Malik Brown highlights.
So, you know what? There's a two-for-one special here today. I thought I had...
Malik Brown can ball, so I like him, too.
I like him, too. Yeah, we talked about him yesterday. Let's get into what happened here today.
So, the first thing, and it's something I think fans have kind of been waiting for.
Let's just take a look at the actual roster and these holds and all this stuff.
You won't even see his name here, because at this point he was just a cap hold.
But one thing that's important to point out are the two-way contracts at the bottom.
Emmanuel Miller, Jacoby Gillespie, and Malik Brown.
Why is that important? You can only have three two-way spots.
And the Spurs have their three right there.
But one guy that was going for a two-way spot and who got his qualifying offer,
his regular qualifying offer, not even a two-way qualifying offer from the Spurs,
was Harrison Ingram. But today, the Spurs withdrew that qualifying offer.
So, in simple terms, this is what it means. A qualifying offer is just the Spurs saying,
you can take up to this amount of money that we're offering you, and you can stick around.
Right? But it's just a way for the Spurs to say, we're okay spending this much on him.
Or at least to say that we're going to spend this much on him for him to stick in the organization.
Right? And that's that. And Harrison Ingram and the Spurs can work out a contract,
or Ingram could accept the qualifying offer and just accept that one-year role on a standard contract.
But by withdrawing this, that is no longer a threat. It's no longer an option.
Harrison Ingram cannot say, okay, I accept the qualifying offer, and I'm now a member of the Spurs.
He can't do that anymore. And, likely, what's going to happen is that he's not going to take up a two-way spot.
So I know we had a two-way spot out there for David Jones-Garcia. That's the qualifying offer we extended him.
But Keenan, now with another question mark about all of our roster space gone with Harrison Ingram,
who, to be fair to him, I mean, like, such a great rebounder for his size. He always gave his all.
His offense just didn't come to fruition with the Spurs. With this question mark gone,
I think this opens the door to some, I mean, we were wondering about this final roster spot, right?
We still could leave it open, but I think a lot of Spurs fans are leaning towards one guy in particular.
But maybe just give your thoughts on Harrison Ingram getting this offer rescinded, first of all,
and becoming officially an unrestricted free agent.
Yeah, and we talked about Harrison Ingram maybe a couple weeks back, roughly-ish,
when the qualifying offer was actually given out to him, and we talked about it, and we're like,
David Jones-Garcia makes sense. We're happy about that.
Harrison Ingram, it didn't make sense because, as he is a really good rebounder,
and obviously he can play basketball at one of the highest levels.
Clearly, he is around the NBA circuit for a reason.
It just didn't materialize to something that we necessarily needed on a game-in, game-out basis,
or even on a bench, like, we, a possibility game-in, game-out basis.
Just, we, he wasn't going to stretch the floor enough.
He was undersized, and though he worked extremely hard,
you weren't getting just an undersized guy, a Draymond Green-level impact,
a guy who could utilize that defensive prowess, his smarts, and things of that nature.
Since you weren't getting that, and you weren't really getting the offensive boost,
there, every time you saw him even in Summer League, it just, a little bit to be desired.
The jump shot did not develop. At that point, it was, we don't need to keep a roster spot,
especially when we've drafted well, we have good people that we've seen in Summer League so far.
There are other options we could go with that last roster spot with the qualifying,
so it made sense to pull it.
Yeah, I agree, and like, the team is so, I don't know, it's squished a bit already,
and especially with these two-way deals, and again, after signing Jordan McLaughlin,
the Spurs only have one one-way contract left, so there's just one regular roster spot,
and the two-way spots are all taken up. Now, there are question marks whether,
you know, Emmanuel Miller, like, I don't know how these quirks actually work out,
whether they can just, like, fully rescind it or whatever, but it's also worth pointing out
that the Spurs can go over this limit in the off-season, like,
there's nothing saying the Spurs have to have, or can never go over 15 players right now,
it's just that by the start of the regular season, you can't be over that limit, right?
So, right now we can still go out and get a bunch of players and figure things out,
but with him gone, it's still, like, you know, rescinding one qualifying offer
and not the other makes you think there's something going on with David Jones-Garcia,
and something going on is maybe putting it lightly, because there have been
rampant rumors that apparently Olympiacos has been recruiting him,
and David Jones-Garcia is at the center of market rumors, but according, yeah,
apparently the Greek club had a positive meeting with the player,
but the reported proposal was said to be in the range of 3 million over 2 seasons.
Eurohoops, however, contacted Olympiacos and received a denial from the Greek club.
Apparently Olympiacos said that, look, they're not doing this with Garcia.
Now, whether they actually end up signing him, whatever we heard about this last season,
but Keenan, I love this player. Like, I really, really, really want to see him play.
I know a lot of fans love David Jones-Garcia.
Some of our best videos on the channel involve David Jones-Garcia.
You look at his G League stats, my goodness, the dude's a menace.
Every single year he plays, 25, 26, 11 games, 26 a game.
24, 25, 25 a game.
The other team he had in 24, 25, 25 points a game.
This dude is a monster, doing everything he can do, averaging almost two steals a game in the G League.
We saw his scoring prowess.
I don't know if it would be a two-way or a one-way or what, Keenan,
but I just can't help but love the idea that there still is a roster spot open for this guy,
and especially after rescinding one qualifying offer but not the other,
maybe I'm delusional, but it makes me think that there might be
some kind of term getting agreed to at some point soon.
And I hope there is, to be quite honest with you.
Also, what you didn't say there, but what we saw was six to seven rebounds a game?
What?
How many?
Did you say six to seven rebounds a game?
Six to seven rebounds? Really?
Insane.
But overall, he can play, and the thing about players like this
is not that he's going to give 16 to 18 minutes of quality time a game,
but he can give you a spark.
There are nights where we don't have it.
There obviously are going to be injuries during the season, you don't want them,
but obviously people are going to miss time.
Not everyone plays 82 games.
And this is the player you can stick in there and not feel,
oh, we just took such a huge step back.
Is he Dylan Harper? Is he Stefan Kassel?
No, he's not these guys.
But he can come in and for a night he can give you 12, 7, and 4
and play really well.
And then also the things with these players, too,
is they're going to push players like Dylan Harper, like Stefan Kassel,
like De'Aaron Fox in practice.
And I think that matters a little bit more than what other people would think
just because you do have to get better somehow.
You don't only get better in games, you get better in practice,
you get better by people challenging you and trying to be better.
And he feels like one of those guys.
That's why I would love to have him on the roster
because he has an infectious game, and it seems like he's very well-liked.
Yeah, I like him.
I thought you were going to say infectious smile because he kind of has that, too.
He does.
We remember those summer league games, those preseason or whatever.
It was preseason, right?
It was summer league.
He was going off last year in summer league.
That's a year ago?
That's wild, dude.
People were sold on him.
My only thing with him, though, is do you wonder if like
this may be a crazy statement for a guy that averaged like three points a game
in the NBA last year, but do you think he could want a bigger role somewhere?
I don't blame these rumors for saying maybe he could take a contract in Europe
and just go ball out.
It depends what he wants, obviously.
First and foremost, it's about what David Jones Garcia wants
because he's from Dominican Republic.
I believe he speaks Spanish.
Great Latin culture in San Antonio.
There aren't many teams where, you know, I mean there are a lot of teams
where you get that kind of thing, but still I just wonder if he wants a bigger role,
my one thing would be he probably won't get that in San Antonio,
especially considering the players ahead of him,
but if he is committed to helping the guys and just having good vibes in the locker room,
I mean it's hard for me to say that I wouldn't want him back.
Yeah, I'm 100% want him back, but if he does want a bigger role because he feels,
hey, I can be, I'm a rotational player at least in this league.
I'm seeing on other teams I'm a rotational player at least,
and maybe you have to go over to Europe to prove yourself, to show off like,
oh, is he averaging 26 of it?
Okay, maybe we'll bring him back.
You see that all the time of a player going overseas, doing something,
and then actually coming back to the league and like, oh, okay.
Okay, he actually, let's see what we can do for the role he's in,
so I can't blame him.
Whatever is best for him and what he wants for his basketball future,
but I'm going to let you know, me, partners first, I just love that.
Love to talk about it.
Yeah, I love David Jones-Garcia.
I mean, shout out to all the Dominican fans and all the David Jones-Garcia fans,
so let us know, leave some love down below,
but before we end this video, I've got to get into our picks.
Keenan, it's coming to the end here now.
Spain just punched their ticket to the World Cup Final by beating France.
I know we got a lot of French fans,
and I know I've made it known that I've been rooting for Spain,
so I'm sorry to those French fans.
Désolé, vraiment désolé.
Je ne parle pas français, because I do speak French.
I love the French people, but hey, that's it.
England versus Argentina, Keenan.
I mean, first off, the Omessi Taco Tuesday, you got to take that.
I mean, it's a Taco Tuesday special.
You have to.
You can see the taco right next to him.
1.5 shots.
You're crazy if you don't pick them more,
but Keenan, you got Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham.
The two top stars for England right now, Jude especially.
I mean, look, Messi's going to get his shots.
Are you taking England to win this one with those kind of picks?
So, here's the thing.
My head is telling me to go with England,
but there are a few people in sports that I just don't bet against,
and Lionel Messi is one of them.
This game is going to be high-scoring regardless.
Argentina has allowed, I believe, six goals or expected, whatever,
but they are defensively haven't been Spain.
They have not been France.
So, you know, France just got kicked out, but whatever.
I do think this game will be in the 2-1, 3-2,
so I think you can get a Harry Kane goal.
Jude Bellingham can get shots on target,
but the Argentinians could still get a W.
So, I'm going to go with Argentina because there are a few people in sports I don't bet against.
One of them is Lionel Messi.
Yeah, well, hey, that's it.
Still, though, Harry Kane picking them more on the goal.
I mean, this guy, I bet he's going to be a header.
Like, it's got to be a header from a corner,
and Jude Bellingham, no matter what, is going to get a shot on target.
The closest he's going to have a chance to finally get in there,
like, he's going to be ready.
This is a huge moment for him.
Yeah, these guys, they have a chance to go down in history right now.
Hey, they keep saying, right, it's coming home, bring it home.
I mean, the first time since the 60s that England has a chance to win a World Cup.
Of course, Spain won it very recently.
Argentina, well, they were the last champions.
So, we'll have to wait and see, but listen, that will do it for this episode.
Thank you for tuning in right until the end.
I'm Josh Goss, my co-host, Kenan Warner.
We'll catch you all in the next one.
