A joint convoy of Malian government forces and the Russian Africa Corps was reportedly ambushed on July 12 east of the town of Niono in the Ségou Region. According to reports, the attack was carried out by Tuareg fighters from the FLA alongside militants from JNIM, al-Qaeda’s Sahel affiliate. Reuters reported that the convoy included approximately 200 personnel from the Russian Africa Corps and around 100 Malian government troops.
The exact number of casualties and the full extent of the losses have not yet been confirmed.
