Russia is stepping up measures to protect key military aviation facilities from long-range Ukrainian and potential Western strikes. This includes the enterprise that produces Russia's two most advanced fighter jets, the Su-57 and Su-35. According to Military Watch, this is confirmed by satellite imagery.

In particular, large-scale construction work is underway at the aircraft plant in the city of Komsomolsky-on-Amur and the neighboring Dzemgi airbase.

The aircraft plant is the only enterprise producing two of Russia's most advanced fighter types, the Su-57 and Su-35, and has received significant investment over the past decade, which has contributed to a significant expansion of production scale. According to the publication, recent satellite images show that construction of a major new production facility is nearly complete, and that numerous fortified air shelters designed to protect some of Russia's most advanced combat aircraft, including the Su-57, Su-35S, and Su-30SM2 fighters, are underway. "The fortification work at the aircraft plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur demonstrates an expanded nationwide program to enhance the survivability of Russian aviation infrastructure following a series of Ukrainian attacks on airbases deep inside Russian territory," the report states.

Furthermore, as experts write, the images indicate rapid construction, with several protective shelters currently being erected directly around aircraft already parked on the runway. Specifically, engineers are constructing reinforced structures around them, minimizing disruption to flights and rapidly increasing the level of protection. Several recently constructed shelters appear large enough to accommodate several aircraft simultaneously, and some can accommodate two or even three fighter jets.

Adjacent to the Komsomolsk Aviation Plant, the Dzemgi airbase hosts operational fighter units equipped with Su-35 and Su-57 fighters, making this location one of the most strategically important aviation facilities in the world.

"Therefore, protecting both production facilities and combat aircraft is becoming an increasingly important priority at a time when the Ukrainian Armed Forces are demonstrating growing long-range strike capabilities," the article states.

As reported, Ukrainian drones attacked a military airfield in Borisoglebsk, Voronezh Oblast, on the night of July 8, where the Russian Aerospace Forces' strike and training aircraft are stationed. According to Militarnyi , before the outbreak of full-scale war, Borisoglebsk was considered one of the main airfields of the Russian Aerospace Forces. It is home to the 783rd Aviation Training Center and units of the 105th Mixed Aviation Division, equipped with Su-34, Su-35, and Su-30SM aircraft. NASA's FIRMS monitoring service reported that a NASA satellite also recorded a fire at the airfield on July 8. Based on an analysis of satellite images from recent months, the airfield was not used very actively due to its proximity to the border – only the occasional appearance of individual helicopters and aircraft was recorded there. This is n't the first strike on the Borisoglebsk airfield . On July 5, 2025, units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Special Operations Forces, in cooperation with other components of the Defense Forces, carried out a strike on this facility. The General Staff reported at the time that a warehouse containing guided bombs, a combat training aircraft, and likely other aircraft were hit.
