Greetings, my name is Scott Talley and I am a proud lifelong Detroiter and I'm also very proud
to write stories for the Detroitist platform within the Detroit Free Press. A word that I
often use when talking to people in the community regarding the stories that I write is authentic.
I have an opportunity to write stories about authentic Detroiters
and authentic Detroit institutions and that was certainly the case this week
through the story that I've written for the Detroit is series that comes out Sunday.
This story highlights a family-owned Detroit business which is really a also a family-owned
Detroit institution, Sweet Potato Sensations, located on Losser in the old Redford neighborhood
but since its founding, since it started business going back to 1987, it's evolved into so much more
thanks to two sisters who were encouraged by their mom and dad and one of those sisters
is the primary speaker in the story that I write. Her name is Espy Thomas, also known to many as
Etta Fly, also known to to others as Etta Fly Espy and she is indeed authentic and inspiring
and this week she spent much of the week away from Sweet Potato Sensations getting ready for
a major event in Detroit, the African World Festival, and there Etta Fly has a booth
representing Naturally Fly Detroit and this is a it's a she would say a company but also a
movement and a positive vibe and it's talked about in the story but I wanted to include this
short video so people who come across the story will experience the vibe, the energy,
the positivity of Etta Fly and so I just wanted to provide just a tiny tiny slice of who she is
and I hope that you enjoy this little tiny slice and I also hope that you will enjoy the story
that I've written for the Sunday Free Press. Thank you so much and thank you for reading.
All right what up go Detroit, my name is Etta Fly Espy, Espy Thomas with the Queen of Awesomeness,
