Sydney Sweeney and Scooter Braun's relationship is getting a lot of attention lately, but not necessarily for the reasons they were probably hoping for, because every time these two step out in public, the internet seems to have the exact reaction, wait, are we buying this? Now before anybody comes to me, yes, Sydney and Scooter are a real couple, allegedly. They officially went public earlier this year after months of rumors, Instagram posts, and increasingly public appearances together. Now reports say they've been dating since late 2025 after meeting at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's wedding in Venice, and you know, by all accounts, things have gotten pretty serious, again, allegedly. But serious doesn't mean people aren't skeptical, right? So let's start with the biggest elephant in the room, the age gap. Sydney is 28, Scooter Braun is 44. That's a 16 year age difference, and while plenty of celebrity couples have larger gaps, we know this, fans haven't exactly embraced this pairing. I mean, a lot of people still associate Sydney with her young Hollywood image, while Scooter is known as the music industry executive behind artists like Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, and of course, the infamous New York Knicks fan, Taylor Swift. And that controversy brings us to the PR problem. Whether it's fair or not, Scooter Braun has baggage, lots of it, you know, like a few suitcases full. For years, his name has been linked to one of the most public celebrity feuds of the modern era. So when Sydney started dating him, many fans immediately questioned why she would willingly attach herself to somebody who already comes with a built-in public relations headache. Then came the Knicks games. If you've been anywhere near social media recently, you've probably seen the photos. Sydney and Scooter have been showing up together at multiple New York Knicks playoff and final games. You know, they were there, wearing their Knicks gear, sitting courtside, posting selfies, looking very, very camera aware. And here's where things start getting a little messy. Many fans began accusing the couple of looking overly staged, very performative, if you will. Not because celebrities attending basketball games is unusual, except maybe some, but that's basically an American sport at this point, right? Because every appearance seemed to generate another round of perfectly timed photos, social media posts, PDA moments, and of course, headlines. At one finals game, photos of Scooter kissing Sydney on the cheek quickly spread across entertainment media. Another appearance generated headlines after the pair coordinated matching Knicks outfits. Cute, I guess. And online, people immediately started debating whether these were authentic couple moments or carefully managed image building opportunities. But then things got even more awkward thanks to one unexpected person, Taylor Swift. At game four of the NBA finals, fans realized Scooter Braun and Sydney Sweeney were sitting only a few rows behind Taylor Swift, and the internet absolutely lost its mind. Within minutes, social media was flooded with memes, jokes, and reactions pointing out the irony of Scooter sitting behind the woman whose master's controversy helped define his public reputation, and not his good one, the bad one. To be fair, reports later claimed the seating arrangement was completely coincidental. But like, don't you buy your seats like us regular folk? I know, whatever. Scooter said Sydney had actually surprised him with family tickets and the location had nothing to do with Taylor. Let's remember, Sydney's got good genes, right? But once the internet creates a narrative, good luck stopping it. Am I right? Because suddenly, Sydney found herself getting dragged into a conversation that wasn't even about her. And that's been one of the biggest reoccurring themes of this relationship. Every time the couple makes headlines, the focus often shifts away from Sydney's career and right back to Scooter's reputation. Even stories that should have been harmless, date night coverage, you know, somehow turned into debates about Taylor Swift, PR strategy, celebrity image management, or you know, whatever the relationship feels authentic or not, which it doesn't. Now, none of this means the relationship is fake, of course. You know, in fact, multiple reports describe them as committed and very serious. Friends close to the couple have said things are going well, and that the relationship has become increasingly important to both of them. But perception matters in Hollywood, and we know this. And right now, the perception problem isn't going away. Between the age gap discourse, Scooter's controversial public image, the endless Knicks photo, you know, ops, and the PDA-filled social media posts, and also the accidental Taylor Swift connection, yeah, this relationship seems to generate controversy every single time the couple leaves the house. So the real question isn't whether Sydney Sweeney and Scooter Braun are actually happy together. Maybe they are. Maybe they're not. The real question is whether they'll ever convince the internet that they aren't starring in a celebrity PR campaign every time they're photographed.
