Police say that a contractor found skeletal remains inside a vacant apartment building.
Now they're working to find some answers. Fox News Lauren Edwards is live outside of
Detroit Police Headquarters. Lauren, good morning. So what are some of those unanswered questions?
Brandon, there are so many unanswered questions. First and foremost, I can't imagine
anyone finding this at any point in time and then now finding this while on the job,
wondering how long it's been there, wondering, you know, who it belongs to, male, female,
things like that. Like what happened? What led up to all of this? But again, those are questions we
at Fox who are working to get answers for and the same questions police are asking. But let's get
into the investigation and what we know so far. Now this is the building where the remains were
found. South Clarendon Street near Joy Road in 96 on the city's west side. Police say Wednesday
around 11 a.m. contractors were renovating a vacant apartment building when they stumbled upon
a human skeleton. Immediately, the contractor alerted police. DPD opened an investigation.
Neighbors told Fox 2 that they are concerned and retired assistant chief Steve Dolan says,
you know, it'll be some time before they can get any answers.
Unfortunately, people get their hopes up a little too high. I think it might be my husband, my wife,
my son, my daughter. But until the carbon testing comes back, you can determine the age and the sex.
You don't know. And again, if there's a skull and there's teeth, you do dental record, try to
compare to any missing. So they've got the work cut out for him. It's sad that someone's been
there that long. And again, we don't know if it's a homeless person or a victim of a crime,
but they'll figure it out. So the work's certainly cut out for them. It's certainly
kind of cut out for police. Again, the investigation is launched. It is open and
ongoing and police asking anyone with tips and information to please call 1-800-speak-up.
