Leave a 🇺🇸 in the comments FOR THE ALGORITHM! The Supreme Court makes a million decisions. Is Trump enriching himself off the presidency? And everyone on social media just can’t stop talking Citizen Vigilante. That and more on this week’s America Uncovered headlines.
Chris Chappell discusses current American events, including Supreme Court rulings on campaign spending and transgender sports, Trump's financial gains from crypto and stocks, and the cultural divide over the film *Citizen Vigilante*. He contrasts U.S. infrastructure and stability with European heatwaves and migrant crises to highlight reasons for national pride.
The Supreme Court makes a million decisions.
Is Trump enriching himself off the presidency?
And everyone on social media just can't stop talking about citizen vigilante.
That and more on this week's America Uncovered headlines.
Welcome to America Uncovered, I'm Chris Chappell.
Happy 250th birthday, America!
I'm celebrating with a Jack Daniels hot dog and apple pie smoothie.
But I know a lot of people are down on America right now, specifically Democrats.
Thanks Chinese and Russian bots.
The little or no proud to be an American actually among Democrats eclipses is greater than the
extremely or very proud number.
So we are just living in such a different universe if you're a Republican versus a
Democrat.
But here's something to be proud of.
A heatwave in Europe has been linked to 1,300 deaths so far.
No, that's not what you should be proud of.
It's not like America sent the heatwave using a weather machine.
Israel did.
I'm joking.
I can't tell if that joke is going to increase or decrease the number of people accusing
me of getting a $7,000 check.
No, the reason this should make you proud and grateful to be an American is our widespread
access to air conditioners.
Even if some people are just a little bit unhappy that New York Mayor Zoran Mondani
told New Yorkers to set their ACs to 78 degrees to keep the power grid from going out.
Ah, that must be the warmth of collectivism he was talking about.
Meanwhile, a Paris politician blamed Americans and their air conditioning for Europe's
heatwaves, saying,
As the second largest emitter of greenhouse gas emissions in the world, you bear a significant
amount of responsibility for global warming and the consequences we in France are experiencing.
Two things.
One, who's the number one emitter of greenhouse gases that emits more than the next several
combined?
Can't help but notice you're afraid to call them out.
And two, the US isn't forcing the French to shun air conditioning.
Or shut down nuclear reactors when the river water gets warm on the off chance that the
slightly warmer water coming from the plants might harm wildlife, thus causing more human
deaths.
And to be clear, lack of air conditioning is deadly.
This graph has been making its way around the internet, showing that more Europeans
die of summer heat than Americans die of guns.
And it turns out that it's mostly true, my favorite type of true.
So be happy you live in a country where when you hear suns out, guns out, you only have
to worry about one of those things killing you.
And you know what else is great about America?
The Supreme Court.
They prove you can rise to the highest judicial rank in the land, despite being degenerate
procrastinators that wait until the last day of the term to announce a slew of important
decisions.
Truly inspires you to chase your dreams.
Tomorrow.
I did a whole episode covering their biggest decision, birthright citizenship.
Check that out.
But the Supreme Court also announced several other decisions, so many that NPR mistakenly
reported that Justice Samuel Ito was retiring.
You know you've got a cushy job when a news organization thinks, man, after this amount
of work, clearly this guy is never going to work again.
Although with that comfy robe, his job is literally cushy.
So here's a quick rundown of some of the other decisions the Supreme Court made.
In a 6-3 decision, they struck down limits on party spending in federal elections.
This means that donors can get around caps on spending by donating directly to the party,
who will then have no cap on congressional and presidential candidates they wish to spend
it on.
This is going to make it even more necessary for candidates who want to win to choose one
of the two major parties, because, well, they've got the big bucks.
And it'll make it even more likely that candidates will win based not on who has the best policy,
but on who has the largest purse.
All I ask is if you're going to spend unlimited amounts of money on elections, you can at
least make the ads more entertaining.
Show me Marco Rubio riding a T-Rex with eagle wings doing battle with Gavin Newsom in a
Gundam mech over Castle Grayskull in Wakanda with Iron Maidens run to the hills blaring
in the background.
Then I'd actually hope election season lasts even longer.
The Supreme Court also upheld states' rights to ban transgender women in school sports.
This has been a divisive issue for years now, and I can't say anything that hasn't already
been said on the topic, is what I'd say if I didn't, as usual, have the perfect solution.
Intramural pro wrestling!
It has the athleticism of sports, and the showmanship of theater, and it doesn't matter
how you identify since there's no biological advantage since it's all pre-determined.
It's perfect!
It's... what's that Shelley?
It turns out I may be mistaken, as RFK Jr. points out while talking with WWE's Triple
H.
The great thing about WWE that's so inspiring is all of these guys have failed.
Every one of them has lost fights, and the trick is, how do you persuade yourself to
stand back up and fight again?
Yep, turns out wrestling is real after all.
Someone alert the authorities and have Knox County, Tennessee Mayor Glenn Jacobs, a.k.a.
Kane, arrested for attempted murder for burying the Undertaker alive.
Twice!
Three times if you count him assisting Stone Cold that one time.
In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court will allow states to count mail-in ballots that
arrive late, but were postmarked by Election Day.
This decision has Trump supporters and Trump himself furious, with Trump saying that it
is more important than ever to pass the Save America Act.
It also has some accusing the Supreme Court of going liberal, although I don't think
that's the case.
I think this is less about political leanings and more about all of these procrastinator
judges seeing voters who waited until the absolute last minute and thinking, same.
Another case that caused many to accuse the Court of going left was the Supreme Court
rejecting Trump's bid to appeal a New York federal court jury's verdict forcing Trump
to pay E. Jean Carroll $5 million for sexually abusing and defaming her.
If it's any consolation, Trump can now use unlimited money in an ad complaining about
this decision with dinosaur pegasuses and anime mechs and licensed music.
Or he can just stick with his AI slop.
I guess that is more fiscally conservative.
The most interesting thing about all of these Supreme Court decisions are the reactions.
Trump supporters are furious at Amy Coney Barrett and John Roberts, saying they're
now radical leftists and traitors.
Meanwhile, leftists are upset with Amy Coney Barrett and John Roberts, saying they're
racist, sexist, transphobic, homophobic, all the usual ists and icks.
And I get the ick from talking about all of it.
Essentially, everyone is angry.
Which I think means things are fair and the system is working.
So good job.
In a non-Supreme Court case, MEDA lost its bid to dismiss a lawsuit from 29 US state
attorneys general claiming Facebook and Instagram are addictive to children and they knowingly
hid the harm this does from the public.
So it looks like Mark Zuckerberg could be in trouble.
I'd say I'll keep an eye on this and report what happens, but I don't want to spoil
the ending to the social reckoning, Aaron Sorkin's decade and a half later follow
up to the social network.
But if I had to guess, based on what we've seen recently, Zuck may just be paying out
some settlement donations to both political parties, ensuring some pretty sweet campaign
ads for 2028.
Though Donald Trump won't need any donations, since financial disclosures show that Trump
has pulled in at least 2 billion dollars since returning to the White House.
Now before you leap to any conclusions, let me just say that 1.4 billion of that came
from crypto earnings, powered largely by his meme coins.
Who said memes weren't a viable career?
Oh yeah, my guidance counselor, I should sue him for that terrible advice.
But the rest of Trump's money comes from a combination of thousands of stock trades,
hundreds of which came one day before his tariffs were paused.
Now many would say Trump is obviously profiting off the office, and this is blatant corruption.
Trump claims this money is being made off of his previous business earnings by an institution
that he has no access to or communication with.
But when confronted over the earnings, the president turned the tables.
To critics who say you're profiting off the presidency, Mr. Trump.
You know why I'm profiting?
Because the stock market's going up.
Everybody's profiting.
You have a 401k?
How's your 401k done?
It's about up 85%.
Thank you, President Trump.
Brilliant!
Everyone's profiting.
Except for all those people still living paycheck to paycheck and getting crushed by inflation.
But to them, I say, have you tried the lucrative career of memes?
If any of this political news depresses you or gives you the ick, you're not alone.
New Jersey Republican Representative Tom Kean announced a depression diagnosis is the reason
he was absent from Congress for more than 100 days.
You might think I'm going to make fun of him, saying that it makes me depressed that
this guy can continue getting paid for taking 100 days off work in a position where they
take constant recesses and never seem to get any work done on the few days they actually
decide to grace us with their presence.
And he didn't have a condition as serious as Mitch McConnell, who was found unresponsive
in his DC home last month and may have suffered a heart attack.
I assume they say may have because being unresponsive is kind of his MO these days.
But no, I'm not going to say those super specific things I just said.
I actually identify with Kean.
I am also clinically depressed every time I just think about Congress.
So I can't imagine how mentally crippling it must be to be surrounded by them.
Ick.
Other politicians that depress me are the Democratic Socialists, and they're continuing
to win in elections.
Black Curios of Colorado became the 28th far left candidate to win a Democratic primary
this year.
I did a whole episode covering the DSA platform.
TLDW, they want to destroy Western civilization from the comfort of their condos.
Reality is absurd, and it's creeping into our movies, like Uwe Boll's new film starring
the previously cancelled Arnie Hammer, Citizen Vigilante.
The movie is about a European citizen who targets criminals, many of them migrants.
As you can imagine, this received universal acclaim and caused Hollywood execs to kick
themselves and think, why didn't we think of that?
No, the film has been described as astonishingly bad because, yeah, Uwe Boll, the dude who
came to prominence by making horrible movie adaptations of video games, ruining more childhoods
than SIDS.
But Citizen Vigilante is getting a global release thanks to surging popularity, mostly
from right-wingers, including Elon Musk, who promoted it and even offered a free download
of it on X after it was banned in Germany.
And to be fair, the people who have watched it loved it, as Citizen Vigilante has one
of the highest Rotten Tomato audiences scores of 2026.
Like everything these days, this has turned into a culture war, with people on the right
celebrating the movie for tackling Europe's perceived lack of action over migrant crime,
and the left calling it racist.
But despite what you believe, can we all agree that this is wildly offensive?
Mostly that Uwe Boll is still making films.
But hey, the fact that this is addressing such a controversial issue in Europe that
we don't have to worry about as much here, is just one more reason to be grateful and
proud to live in America!
Happy 250th, USA!
Let's all raise a Jack Daniels hot dog and apple pie smoothie in celebration!
What do you think?
