Can technology recreate someone we have lost—or only deepen the pain of letting them go? Sheep in the Box (2026) is a moving science-fiction drama from acclaimed filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda.

Set in the near future, the film follows grieving couple Otone and Kensuke, who welcome a humanoid robot into their home two years after the death of their young son, Kakeru. Designed to look and behave exactly like the child they lost, the humanoid initially brings comfort and a sense of normalcy back into their lives. But as unresolved wounds begin to surface and the robot develops connections beyond the family, the couple must confront difficult questions about grief, memory, parenthood, and artificial intelligence.
