Deadly crocodile attack at a popular vacation destination in Mexico. A 28 year old man losing
his life after being dragged out to sea at a beach. Victor Akindo has that story for us.
Good morning to you, Victor. Good morning, Robin. Just a horrific scene. We spoke with
a couple that heard this man scream they rushed to help, but say it was too late.
This morning, we're hearing the terrifying firsthand accounts of a deadly crocodile attack
during the middle of a vacation paradise. This truly was the most horrific thing I've ever seen.
We heard screaming from the ocean. We thought someone was stuck in a rip current and it wasn't
until we got in the water that someone told us there were crocodiles and that a croc had him.
It happened Friday afternoon near the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort and Spa in Mexico.
Local officials say a 28 year old man was on the beach when this crocodile dragged him to sea.
At one point, you could see the crocodile around his thigh and when he would turn,
you could see how massive the crocodile was and how big his body and his tail was.
Jamie Yetter and Chris Burry racing to help before the man disappeared.
The water was very murky. Like when you're up to your knees, you can't see your feet. And
the man was in the water at that point struggling. There was nothing really on the beach
to help him. All we did have from the pool was a life preserver,
so it threw that to him. But he wasn't, he was in shock.
The resort is located near a river and estuaries where the reptiles are known to be spotted and
where the victim was later found dead. This sign is posted on the beach, but the California couple
says the hotel did not warn them of the potential risk of crocodiles in the area.
This isn't a nature issue, right? Nature is going to do what it's going to do.
Experts say that an attack like this is rare. We just heard from Marriott saying in a statement,
in part, safety and security of their guests is their top priority. They have appropriate signage
as well as night patrolling and red flags to indicate caution in the area. Their thoughts
are with this individual and their family. George. Yeah, we all share that. Okay, Victor.
Thanks very much.
