Welcome to Mount Robson Provincial Park in British Columbia, Canada.
Mount Robson, in all its glory, is the tallest mountain in the Canadian Rockies.
This weekend we are hiking the iconic Berg Lake Trail. It's about a 21 kilometer hike in
with a thousand meters of elevation. Once you get up there, there's a few different
day hikes you can do, so it's worth spending a few days in the area. We've got three nights,
four days, to really take it all in and explore it. This is the first year the entire trail has
been open in about four years. It sustained quite a bit of flood damage a while back,
and this is the first year that everything's been repaired and it's been fully open, so
we're in for a bit of a treat. We actually completely forgot that we even booked this
trail. We had been booking so many hikes through the winter and spring that this one
just somehow completely slipped our mind. Then we got a reminder email a couple weeks ago and said,
hey, just reminding you, your Berg Lake Trail reservation is coming up, so
it's like we're hiking Berg Lake. It was a very pleasant surprise.
So
we have left Whitehorn Campground behind and we are now starting to climb up to Emperor Falls.
It's about a five to six hundred meter climb, I believe over five kilometers, so shouldn't be too
bad. The rain keeps coming and going and every now and then you get a little bit of a misty
mountaintop peeking through the clouds. We have opted to skip Emperor Falls for right now because
we're pretty much in a cloud right now, so I don't know how much we're actually going to see.
And our energy level is pretty low. We still got at least five kilometers to Berg Lake.
Leaving Berg Lake behind, we head a couple kilometers up the valley to Robson Pass.
We'll be spending the night here and exploring a part of the Snowbird Pass Trail,
which includes epic views of Robson Glacier.
Kilometer mark. The trail is starting to head up towards Snowbird Pass. There's still another
three or four kilometers to go and I don't really feel like climbing anymore. I haven't seen any
goats and there's a bit of rain starting to come in, so this seems like a good of a place to turn
around as any. I mean look at those views. We're just gonna chill here for about 30 seconds and
enjoy that and then we're gonna head back because I don't want Danny to think we died.
10 out of 10. Unreal. Never seen anything like it. Would do again. Wow.
Leaving Robson Pass behind, we start heading back and climb high above Berg Lake for a different
perspective.
So
unfortunately saying goodbye to Mount Robson and Berg Lake. So nice to meet you.
Till next time.
Quite nice.
Soak our throbbing feet.
And even though we were
heading back the same way we
came in, we didn't see a lot when
we came in. Everything was
blocked by cloud and
rain, so as long as
we got some decent weather tomorrow, which I think we're
supposed to, should be a really
nice hike up.
We're getting wet from over here,
so we're going to
paunch up and get out
there!
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.
Welcome to the final day
on the track. We've got
about 15 to 16 kilometers
from Emperor Falls
campground to the Berg Lake
trailhead. We've got
blue skies and a bit of
cloud in the air, but
a lot of haze. It's kind of hard to see
all the mountains, the distant
views, but hopefully that
burns off really quick because we should get
some really good views on the way out
that we didn't get on
the way in. We can say goodbye
to Mount Robson
and Emperor Falls in the background.
This is the
final day on the Berg Lake
trail. Let's check it out.
