For decades, companies moved manufacturing overseas in search of lower costs. Now that equation is changing. Labor costs in China have risen, tariffs and geopolitical tensions have added new risks, and companies are rethinking where products should be made. Yet bringing production back to the United States is proving far more complicated than many expected.

As manufacturers look for alternatives, countries like Mexico, India, and Vietnam are attracting new investment. At the same time, advances in automation are changing what modern factories look like and where they can operate. The result is a global manufacturing landscape that is becoming more diversified, with businesses weighing cost, resilience, market access, and long-term risk all at once.
