Agra est une ville située dans l'État de l'Uttar Pradesh en Inde, chef-lieu de cet État et du District d'Agra. Parmi ses nombreux monuments, elle compte notamment le Taj Mahal, le Fort rouge.
Avec une population de 1.9 millions d’habitants, elle est la troisième ville de l’état de Uttar Pradesh.
Nous visiterons bien entendu le Taj Mahal qui signifie « la couronne du palais » en langue perse est situé à Agra, au bord de la rivière Yamuna, dans l'État de l'Uttar Pradesh, en Inde.
C'est un mausolée de marbre blanc construit par l'empereur moghol musulman Shâh Jahân en mémoire de son épouse préférée Mumtaz Mahal, qui signifie en persan « lumière du palais ».
Celle-ci meurt le 17 juin 1631 en donnant naissance à leur quatorzième enfant.
La construction du mausolée commence en 1631 et s'achève dans sa plus grande partie en 1648. Son époux, mort le 31 janvier 1666, est inhumé auprès d'elle.
Le Taj Mahal est considéré comme un joyau de l'architecture moghole, un style qui combine des éléments architecturaux des architectures islamique, iranienne, ottomane et indienne.
Visité par plus de 8 millions de touristes par année, ce qui en fait le site le plus touristique d'Inde et un des dix monuments les plus visités au monde.

It is a white marble mausoleum built by the Muslim Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite wife Mumtaz Mahal, which in Persian means “light of the palace”.
She died on June 17, 1631 giving birth to their fourteenth child.
The construction of the mausoleum began in 1631 and was completed for the most part in 1648. Her husband, who died on January 31, 1666, was buried next to her.
The Taj Mahal is considered a jewel of Mughal architecture, a style that combines architectural elements from Islamic, Iranian, Ottoman and Indian architecture.
