Talking about division and the child's division journey, there are different activities or games which they could learn how to divide through. In this video we are going to share with you two different games which we believe are effective.
What is division? Kids should understand that division is the process of dividing a specific number by another in an equal way. Since division is the process of dividing a specific number then kids should first know what is half or how they are supposed to divide a specific number by two, which is considered the simplest division act to do.
The first game we have here is dividing a specific number of cartoon characters between two people. The first easy thing that any child will do is start dividing the characters one by one and will eventually give the final answer for dividing the whole number of characters by two. In order to start taking the kids into the world of division then it is important to try asking them how many would each person have if 10 is divided by two? Kids should think first through counting the numbers they have before they start separating them one by one.
The second division game used for kids is mainly depending on drawing. The parent will choose the number that he/she wants the child to divide and draw them in any shape - sweets for example - and then draw the number of people who he/she wants to divide - for example draw three characters - and then give the kids different pencil colors so that they could color the sweets while dividing them between the kids - every piece they would cross out from the drawn sweets, they need to redraw them once again beside the characters drawn on the paper.
Always make sure to give the child the chance to think while they are answering the mathematical questions which you are imposing and give them the chance to answer in the way they consider the most suitable for them before you move forward to the part of sharing how they should think about the answer or what is the best suitable answer considered for them.
There are lots of different things or resources and games to use while teaching kids how to divide, such as using Lego blocks, depending on play-doh, and even lots of other creative things that parents and teachers could depend on when it comes to math and not just division (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvh9C4TbxwM).
In addition to those simple games, we have shared with you before some magic math tricks which are related to division and how kids could learn it. There is the simple magic math trick that helps with practicing division when it comes to kids (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v-28FdX3m8) and there are general other games and tricks which could teach kids math in general, such as the Bingo game (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVM8iQMaZN8).
When it comes to the process of choosing the resources, the games or coming up with the activities which you are going to try with your child in order to teach him/her something, whether it is math or any other thing, it is important to choose the resources which they already love to play with or use in general because that's how they are going to find the whole lesson interesting for them and will be willing to learn.
Kids love to draw, they love the small cartoon characters which they play with, they are usually attracted to playing with the play-doh and making shapes or even letters out of it and they love to play with Lego blocks as well - you will most probably find these different resources and toys in every single home out there where kids are found inside.
When the kid understands what is division and how it should be made, he/she finds it easier to divide any number they have by another and they would even find it easier later on when they come to the point of implementing the techniques learned in the real life situations they come to face.
