State Duma deputy Vyacheslav Markhaev, representing the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, announced the growth of internal socio-economic risks in the Russian Federation and demanded that the authorities present a "public plan for completing" the "SVO". According to him, the country allegedly found itself "on the brink of a social explosion" amid corruption scandals, a protracted war against Ukraine, and enormous losses. He noted that the current situation is exacerbated by the expanding geography of Ukrainian attacks across Russian regions.
Markhaev also stated that the goals declared by the Kremlin authorities in the war against Ukraine have changed – they now boil down to holding already occupied territories.
The parliamentarian emphasized that without a clear strategy to end the fighting, internal problems will mount, and social tensions could escalate into a deep crisis, potentially escalating violently . Therefore, he called on the authorities to present a "concrete and public plan" for resolving the current situation.
İn this case Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine has already lasted longer than World War I, which is one of the main proofs of the failure of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's plans. But the worst thing for the dictator is that he has actually strengthened the spirit of the Ukrainian people, whose existence he himself denies. The author notes that the war has now lasted 1,569 days. Despite Russia controlling approximately 20% of Ukrainian territory, including occupied Crimea, Moscow has been unable to achieve the quick victory the Kremlin had hoped for at the start of the invasion.
According to the data cited in the article, Russia lost between 350,000 and 500,000 soldiers killed, and the number of wounded and permanently disabled could be several times higher. At the same time, Russian troops failed to achieve any significant strategic successes. Moore recalls that in February 2022, Putin called the attack on Ukraine a "special military operation," as he effectively did not recognize Ukrainian statehood and expected a rapid collapse of the Ukrainian government. However, within a few weeks, Russian troops were forced to retreat from Kyiv.
The author also points out that the invasion produced the opposite result from the Kremlin's expectations. Instead of destroying Ukrainian identity, the war only strengthened national unity. According to the observer, "Putin inadvertently forged the spirit of the nation he sought to destroy."
The article notes that the Russian invasion also changed the security situation in Europe. Countries that the Kremlin considered a potential sphere of influence instead intensified cooperation with the West. Finland, which became a NATO member, is cited as an example. Moore notes that Putin is trying to destroy the European security system created more than 80 years ago, but, paradoxically, Ukraine is now Europe's main "savior."
