A day in the life of a tailor | Seamstress at work | Sewing Customs and Clothing Alterations Shop

Okay, so I'm starting off with this top. We're taking in the sides right now, so I'm just marking everything. If you're interested in learning how I tailor clothes, I know people do it their own way. I've had someone in the past tell me that the way I do it is a longer process, which okay, valid, but I also just feel like it's a more accurate, better process. And I'm right here where like there's these beautiful trees and you can hear nature being nature and like a nice breeze and I'm in the shade. And I like to do this when I go on a lunch break because after I eat, I just like to take a few minutes going on a little walk. So this is where I stop. It's giving me Pocahontas in the wind. Anyways, I'll see you guys inside. So I needed me a little pick me up. Right now I'm working on a custom vest jacket and I'm going to start pressing the wool here because it is a little bit wrinkly and we don't want that. So okay, so I'm actually really happy with how the first front side came out. This is the inside. I have to press it still. But anyhow, like just look like it is beautiful. It's lining up beautifully. The only part as we get to this bust curve entering into that armhole, we are messing with bias. We had to do some snipping and stretching to kind of get it to follow the curve. So one side had more of a straight line and then the other side had more of a curve and that created this beautiful seam here. I really am super impressed with myself. I am so happy. I've never really matched plaids before in the past. So this was a first for me. It was definitely mentally challenging because just of the past how I used to think. So I was able to kind of climb out of that way of thinking fairly quickly, which is nice for someone who suffered mentally before. I really am just enjoying this project at this point. I just feel very pleased with it and with my skills right now. I really thank God for this because this is really bringing me joy. I'm also listening to a sermon in between clips. Shout out to Jack Gibbs. I love his. I really want to visit his church. I love how he pastors. I love his messages and that coffee that I made really has put in some work. So this is the part that I have to start snipping and easing into that curve. Where are my scissors? Okay and I'm only kind of doing this part here. I'm not snipping the entire seam allowance. Only the part that meets it. I'm gonna go take this to the sewing machine. Okay let's check it out. Black, black, square here, checker here, checker here. They're pretty identical I would say. This would pass for couture I would say. I would say this would pass. Okay I should do the darts first because there's shoulder darts and there's also back darts. So let's just take this over to my sewing station and do that first. Okay again, white point with white point. Hi! Sorry give me one moment. Okay okay come on in. I'm gonna stop the recording. Can I have you lift the arm for me as well? Right there. Perfect and then you can lower the arms. So I just finished that fitting. I'm gonna hang her garment on a hanger. So this is the dress that you just saw. All right it's so cute. I love this. This is like my style. I love the poofy sleeves and then also denim. It's just so amazing. I didn't record everything but she did bring me a few pants to alter as well. And was it just pants? Oh and also a really cute denim skirt. I'm running out of hands. There we go. There we go. Okay and then I'm gonna go ahead and hang this and she's picking up on the 6th of July. So we're gonna put that here. Oh that is pretty heavy and then right now oh crap. Oh this goes with her stuff too. Yeah she brought like a lot of stuff which is such a blessing. Let me just say. All right I was in the process of cutting out the lining pieces and I just have to do the center front. I had a few pickups today so I wasn't able to complete it all but tomorrow I'm gonna be closed. So probably for sure next week this should all be done. So that's exciting and then let me show you how the outer shell is looking. Okay so this is her so far. We just have to complete the alterations to the pattern for the collar and but the collar doesn't go on right away. So I plan to do the collar once it's all sewn together with the lining and then I'll attach the collar. But honestly I'm pretty much done. It's like 15 minutes to 4. So I'm just gonna start cleaning up. I have to grab my steamer. I promised a friend that I would take that to her and yeah I'm pretty much set. I mean this was a pretty successful day.
