We finally made it to the Florida Keys in our RV and this might be one of our favorite stops yet 🌴✨ In this video, we take you along for the journey as we drive the iconic 7 Mile Bridge and settle into Leo’s Campground, which ended up being the perfect home base for exploring Key West. From here, everything felt so easy and close, including one of our favorite experiences of the trip. We went kayaking through the mangroves with Lazy Dog, just a short walk from our campsite, and it was such a peaceful way to experience the Keys. We also woke up early to catch sunrise at the Southernmost Point in the continental USA, which is something you just have to do when you’re in Key West. Of course, we had to try some local favorites too. We grabbed breakfast at Blue Heaven, explored the Key West Lighthouse, and ended one of our nights with a date night at Sunset Pier where we watched one of the most beautiful sunsets. And you already know we couldn’t leave without getting a slice of key lime pie from Kermit’s 🍋 After soaking it all in, we packed up the RV and started the long journey back, driving 1500 miles to Tennessee to see Madison’s family, then another 500 miles to Missouri to see Tyler’s family. This is where our next adventure really begins as we make our way out to Colorado.
Today is our last week here in Florida. We've been here almost two months
and we've decided to spend our last week in Key West so we're really excited to be there.
Right now we're in Florida City which is like the last big city before you hit the keys
and we're just grabbing some lunch and we'll probably be in Key West in like
a little under two hours I think. It's about 140, it's about 124 miles to Key West from here so we
got a little bit of a drive so we're gonna eat some lunch real quick and get going after that.
We have some leftover taco meat that we're eating for lunch. Well you just have chips.
No I ate some cantaloupe. I've eaten a couple chips and then string cheese. Okay. Girl lunch.
Girl lunch I see. I was wondering why these tasted kind of weird because avocado oil,
sea salt and vinegar and I was like why is this spicy and it says with a hint of
serrano chili. Let me try it. It's a big one. It's spicy. I didn't even notice that.
Okay there it is yeah. Oh that is weird. That is interesting. We were just admiring the way
Ollie's hair parts down the middle like a sophisticated gentleman.
To the key.
So
me from the future of the video you're watching. So we're here in Colorado right now and I realized
that while editing this video of Key West I realized that we didn't have a whole lot of
video to really show you from our week because we just decided to enjoy being down there. So I
did take the camera along with us a few times. I'll just summarize what we did and show you a
few clips. So about four or five minutes away from our campsite was a place called Lazy Dog
and they rent kayaks so you can get one for I think we paid like 70 dollars in total. So we
got a double kayak and you can go from that marina and go around the corner and kayak the mangroves
and you get about two hours which is plenty of time. I think we ended up getting back a little
bit early. Later on I think the next day we woke up super early went to the we went to the southern
most point of the U.S. Technically that's not the southern most point but I think they had to
move it to a place where they can publicly have people come. The southernmost point in the U.S.
is actually privately owned so you know he doesn't want people on his island I don't think. But yeah
if you want to go there and just like walk up to it go first thing in the morning like right when
the sun comes up otherwise there's going to be a long line. When we went there the first time it
was in the middle of the day there were probably about 80 people not even exaggerating wasn't worth
it for us to stand around so we just did it first thing in the morning and it was perfect. So after
that we went to see a lighthouse. It isn't I don't think it's technically the first lighthouse built
but they I think they like reconstructed it but this one was built in 1848 I believe and then it
was decommissioned in 1969. There's 8080 steps all the way to the top. So that times any typical
island and 7 to 8 miles out to sea. Nice highly recommend that I think it was like 20 bucks maybe
definitely worth it if you're into history you're into lighthouses I mean and it's a great view too
you get to the top you can see the entire island so very much very much worth going to. So the last
thing that we did that was notable we we went to Sunset Pier and you can sit and have dinner
and watch the sunset. The very last thing the night before we left Key West we went to Duval
Street and it's not really our scene it kind of reminded me of like a tropical Broadway like in
Nashville. Kermit's Key Lime Pie. Key Lime Pie is a huge thing in Key West so we got some from
Kermit's and it was really good. Like it? Yeah so then the next morning we got up and we left and
we drove from Key West all the way up to visit my parents in Biloxi Mississippi and we stayed there
a couple days visited with them that was a thousand miles and then after that from Biloxi to Nashville
where home base is kind of for us where Madison's family lives. Then drove up to my parents and met
my parents again in Missouri that's another 500 miles we stayed there a few days in the garage
and so that is going to be the start of the next video of us driving out here to
Colorado. This right here is normal for us we don't normally pay for campsites and we're not really
into like doing the touristy thing like in Florida where it's just you pay for everything
and which is fine but that's we like being out here in the open land nobody's around I mean
I don't hear anything it's just wind birds and once in a while you'll hear a vehicle drive by so
um but yeah that's it and uh I think that's all I gotta say. Jump. Ollie wanted to say hi.
