Switzerland’s Historic Railway Giants Return 🚂🔥 | Bahnfestival Brugg 2026
Step into the atmosphere of Bahnfestival Brugg 2026, where Switzerland’s historic railway giants come together on the day before the festival begins. This video captures some of the behind-the-scenes preparations as volunteers and railway crews position locomotives, wagons, and heritage rolling stock for a weekend of steam, diesel, and electric railway operations.
The video showcases a rare mix of Swiss railway history in motion: powerful steam locomotives, classic diesel shunting engines and historic electric locomotives working together in a living railway environment inside the depot, yard, and turntable area.
A major highlight is the legendary SBB Ce 6/8 II 13254, the iconic “Crocodile” electric locomotive of the Swiss Federal Railways. Famous for its articulated design and exceptional slow-speed traction on the Gotthard route, this engineering icon appears in operational depot movements during the festival preparations, showcasing its timeless presence in Swiss railway history.
Another rare highlight is the Uerikon-Bauma Bahn CZ M 31, a historic steam railcar built around 1902. Unlike a conventional locomotive, this self-propelled passenger vehicle combines a small steam engine with an integrated carriage body, designed for light passenger service on branch lines. Today, it survives as a beautifully preserved heritage vehicle and is shown in operation at the festival, including movements on the turntable and within the depot area.
Together, these vehicles represent the Swiss railway evolution—from early self-contained steam rail transport, to heavy electric freight power, to classic steam and diesel operations.
