From Piko Web Site - The TKt48 series tender locomotives of the Polish State Railways (PKP) were an important part of passenger and freight traffic on the mountain lines of the Giant Mountains and the High Tatras between the 1950s and 1980s. The locomotives were built from 1950 to 1957 in the Fablok and Cegielski factories, of which 191 were delivered to the PKP. Thanks to their high adhesive weight, the series became a true all-rounder in the mountains, and their top speed of 80 km/h in both directions revolutionized operations on branch lines. Due to declining traffic and the closure of many branch lines, the locomotives lost their operational area and were decommissioned and scrapped by 1989. Fortunately, over a dozen locomotives were spared and can still be admired as museum and heritage locomotives.
