Welcome to another exciting episode of Gnomes and Chipmunks,
and today we're going to be coloring in our friends from the cartoon.
So here we have Grandpa Pebbles, we have Timmy, and we have Zoe.
In ancient times, gnomes were said to be tiny people that lived underground,
but they didn't always interact with humans. That was very rare.
But on rare occasions, they would come out into the forest or people's gardens,
and that was said to be good luck.
Have any of you guys ever seen a gnome in someone's garden before?
No.
No? Actually, if you go to people's gardens,
a lot of people have little statues of gnomes,
and those gnomes are said to protect the garden and bring good luck.
Do you know why they're good luck?
Because they're really friendly and they kind of like bring happiness.
Yeah.
They're really happy every day.
Gnomes bring good luck because they're very hardworking and responsible.
So they come out and they take care of people's gardens.
So they're really, really good.
Gnomes, like we saw in our video, the gnomes are also community.
They stick together and they help each other out
and they make strawberry jam together and they do all kinds of stuff together.
Sometimes gnomes come out, interact with people, but that's very, very rare.
So you have to be really, really lucky to see that.
Let's talk about Grandpa Pebbles.
Grandpa Pebbles was really patient and kind
when the chipmunks took all the strawberries
and then everybody thought it was a bad thing,
but it turned out to be a good thing because they came back with honeycombs.
He taught us an important lesson,
which is sometimes if you think something is bad,
it may not really be bad.
Sometimes if you think something is good, it may not really be good.
So you always got to be patient and kind and just look at what the situation is.
And the gnomes together as a community,
they also have a really good trait, which is...
Yeah, they have teamwork.
So they work together to grow their crops in the summer
and then that way they have enough food for the winter.
You guys want to hear a story?
Yeah.
Okay.
So the story I'm about to tell you comes from ancient Greece
and it was told by a philosopher called Aesop.
So it's super ancient.
And basically a long time ago,
there was a bunch of ants and there was a grasshopper.
And the ants, every single day, they would go out
and they would work really, really hard all summer
and they would collect lots and lots and lots of food
and work together as a team
and then they would store it in their anthill.
Meanwhile, the grasshopper...
Grasshoppers like to sing.
They make that chirping sound.
So the grasshopper just sat and played all summer long.
And then when the winter came,
the ants were suddenly like,
grasshopper, what are you doing?
What did you do all summer?
The grasshopper was like,
I just played all summer long.
And the ants are like, what are you going to eat?
And suddenly the grasshopper's stomach rumbled
and he was like, yeah, I have no food.
So he went to the ants and he said,
can I have some of your food?
And the ants were like, no, no, no, no.
We worked all summer for our food
and you just sat there and played the days away.
So they're like, if you go hungry,
that was your own problem.
So the grasshopper was very sad and he was very hungry.
So the important thing is,
is that if you want to have a good living,
then you have to work hard.
And if you work hard,
you'll be rewarded with good outcomes.
But if you're lazy and you sit and watch TV all day
and you waste all your time,
then you won't have enough food to eat.
The gnomes are a community,
but the gnomes also live in a village.
Do you guys know what a village is?
Sarah.
A village is like a town, but a little bigger.
Like a village is like pretend, for example,
like me go alone and then my kid go alone
and then I like the village.
Not quite.
A village is like a town, but a village is smaller.
So a city is really big and a town is a little bit smaller
and then the village is a small one.
So there's not a lot of people in a village
and you can also be closer with the people around you.
So the people in a village all know each other really closely
because there's not many people.
So you know each other really well
and then you can have a very good community
and very good relationships with other people.
Another benefit of living in a village
and being close to nature is you can grow your own food
and when you grow your own food,
that's the healthiest and best tasting food.
So that's what the gnomes do.
The gnomes work together as a community in their village
and then they grow their crops together
and so they have really tasty food.
Each of you can have one of each.
So here, you can have a Timmy, you can have a Timmy.
Yeah, you can start.
Did you guys all finish colouring?
Yes!
Good, yeah, they look beautiful.
Okay, do you guys want to hold them up for the camera?
Yes!
So hold up your beautiful art
and on the count of three, we're going to say happy chipmunks.
So ready?
Three, two, one.
Happy chipmunks!
Good job, everybody.
