After months of building, testing, upgrading, and taking this rig into the real world…
👉 The Drop Box RV Build is officially COMPLETE.
And in this final episode, Dude RV finally reveals the official name of the rig.
This project started as a simple idea: build a compact off-grid adventure setup capable of reaching places where Trudy Thunder is just too big to go.
Now it has become:
🚐 a true mobile basecamp 🛶 a kayak adventure hauler 🛏️ a comfortable overnight setup ❄️ a climate-controlled off-grid camper
…and now it finally gets its identity.
🔥 What’s Covered in This Final Episode 🚐 completed Drop Box RV walkaround 🪚 fine build details and finishing touches ❄️ A/C and off-grid system performance 🪝 trailer and winch review 💰 estimated project cost breakdown 🧠 lessons learned during the build 🎉 the OFFICIAL NAME REVEAL 🧠 Was It Worth It?
This episode answers the big questions:
Did the concept work? How did it perform in the real world? What would be done differently? And can a compact trailer really become a serious kayak adventure basecamp?
The answer might surprise you.
👉 Just What You Need To Build It
🌲 The Mission Continues
This may be the end of the build…
…but it’s the beginning of the adventures.
The Drop Box RV is now ready to hit the road, launch the kayak, and explore places far beyond the campground.
🧭 Join the Adventure
The build is complete. The name is revealed. Now the real fun begins.

Welcome to Dude RV. I appreciate you stopping by. Y'all ready? We're gonna go old school.
Y'all ready to go old school? This is Bob Barker, RV guy extraordinaire. I'm hanging out here at
the lake with my brand new 2026 Dude RV traveling special. This is perfect for the Dude RV
adventures. We are prepared to shoot your most excellent videos. We're going to be sleeping in
total comfort and style thanks to that mini split air conditioner from V4. This bad boy weighs in
less than 1,500 pounds, so you can pull it with just about any little old pickup. We are set up
with a big six inch, eight inch, super soft rvmattress.com mattress with that cold air coming
from V4. Thank you very much. Rent Pro provided doors and windows make this easy to get in and
out of. We are 12 volt off grid ready. Yappy interrupted. So anyway, so I transferred the
awning from the truck onto the trailer and I like it so much better here.
And it gives me that additional in the event that it starts raining, but it works out better.
I like it. Added another cargo module on the front so that I can store some additional stuff.
And then I finished out the module on the rear and we've got a solid physical connection there.
I screws, I bolts. That is for hanging solar panels because we have 300 watts of solar
that charge our 320 watt life pole four battery that powers the air, the refrigerator and the air
conditioner and the CPAP machine. Did I show you? Go ahead. I have a plug so if I'm in a
park like I am right now where I have 110, I have a plug back there for the CPAP machine.
Otherwise I have a 12 volt brick to power it off of the battery. That's been running
for about 20 minutes and it's already freezing cold in here. The final, so this module,
this is actually the kayak rack. This is the big pedal kayak. Pelican sits on side there.
I have mounted a holder for the paddle, security to keep stuff from walking off.
We are styling and profiling. That is, for now, that's finished. I'll provide,
we'll have a shopping list, a whole list of the components that went into this
in the description down below. I've put together a shopping list on Amazon for these products
because just all of it came from Amazon except for the wood. I think I haven't weighed it since
I added the other two modules but I'm thinking we've probably added a couple hundred pounds so
we're probably at about 1500 pounds. That's actually quite perfect. It doesn't bounce
going down the road. It's solid. As far as the cost goes, that's a hard one for me to actually
quantify because I bought this trailer 20 years ago for a hundred bucks and then spent a couple
hundred dollars turning it into a good solid utility trailer. Then I remodeled it again
and now I've done it a third time. We have to take that out of the equation but you could
expect to spend five to six hundred dollars on a trailer. That's just, you gotta have the trailer
so 600 bucks. Now the box, really I didn't do a whole lot of elaborate construction here.
I got the big four by four beam all the way around so I got a good solid frame to yank on
and then I took dimensional lumber, two by fours, and I cut them in half and made one and a half by
one and a half. One and three quarter by one and three quarter and built frame the wall with that.
There's four sheets of plywood on the outside and four sheets of plywood on the inside and
I didn't pay for most of the plywood and I bought some that was cull for two sheets for free.
Two sheets I bought years ago and then I had to buy two sheets and they were like 40 bucks so
let's just call it an average of $40 per sheet, $320 on average. We'll say our framework was
about $400. So we're at $900 with the trailer and the wood, about 900 bucks and then we get
into the components. So this was $300. I paid for that it was $380 something like that and then this
was $100 so we're $400. That's going to be about $200, $600 and then that one over there was
$700 in windows and doors. And then paint. Let's talk about paint because I painted this with
probably the most expensive paint I could find at $85 a gallon, oil-based enamel for metal,
but it was on clearance. Someone had had it tinted and it was the wrong color so I picked
up a gallon for $30 and that stuff was so thick going on it was yeah there's two good solid coats
on there. I'm very happy with it. So far I've been able to camp off grid without any issues.
All right I gotta go I gotta go do my thing here at Fort Parker State Park.
So I got distracted. In the background did you see that that travel trailer rolling in?
Anyway that's a follower of the channel stopped and started talking to me and I forgot
where I was in shooting the video. So we were talking about numbers and as I mentioned this
it's kind of hard to give you an exact tabulation on what this cost because I didn't pay for a lot
of the components. But having run the you know as I'm sitting here at the as I'm building that
shopping list on Amazon and looking at the prices that I've paid for the electrical components and
some of the things really surprised me as to the hardware costs like for these they were like
$70 just for to the hardware to connect that. So with the leveling jacks and all components I
don't think I could build this for literally less than $3,000
with all of as is and putting all the fancy components. Now you wouldn't have to spend that
much to have a usable drop box trailer. You could use a 110 air conditioner since you if you're just
going to a state park. You wouldn't have to have a 12 volt mini split. You wouldn't have to have
320 amp hours of battery in the solar panels. So but literally and I didn't even calculate
what the solar panels cost. So there's another couple hundred bucks.
So you're you're to get off grid like this it's you're gonna have to invest a little money
but it's still better than what I could buy because you can't buy that. Yeah and it wouldn't
all have to be done at one time you could do it in small increments which is how this this
accumulated in small increments. So this didn't happen I just didn't run out and buy all the stuff
over the years. Buy a piece shows up it goes in the building. Piece shows up it goes in the
building. So I'm saying 35 it would take it would I would have to spend three thousand four thousand
dollars to to build this if I were to pay for all the components. Yeah I'll leave it at that.
All right moving right along. I failed to tell you we have a name. Now you know everything on
YouTube has to have a name. All the cars have to have a name. Everything has to have a name.
So when we got when we picked up the big motor home we ended up naming her after
Norse mythology the Norse god Thor. His he he actually had a wife and kids and and one of his
kids was her name was Thrud which in anglic translates to Trudy. And so we went down the
rabbit hole of naming everything after the Thor's family. So we have the Valkyrie which is the the
e-bike well of course I did that that was already uh white lightning we already called that white
lightning and I haven't named Poseidon maybe I don't know that's not Norse. Anyway so when I was
talking to a friend the other day and he said is that actually an RV or is that the dog house when
you make yappy mat and that got me to thinking I wonder there's Thor. Did Thor have a dog?
And sure enough Thor's dog had some he was a he's a serious dog he had some magical powers
but Thor's dog was named Thorry. So meet Thorry the Norse dog. If you've not already I'd be most
