From Abandoned Land to Organic Garden (First Results!)
#offgrid #gardening #garden
Welcome to the first steps of our organic garden in Sicily!
A few weeks ago, we acquired this 12-hectare off-grid land, and my dream was simple: grow our own organic food while regenerating the soil naturally.
In this episode, I finally start building the garden from scratch.
What looked like abandoned rocky land is slowly transforming into productive organic garden beds using regenerative gardening techniques, vermicompost, companion planting, drip irrigation, mulch, and natural soil improvement methods.
This isn’t about creating a perfect garden overnight. It’s about learning how to work with nature, restore depleted soil, save water, and create a healthy ecosystem step by step.
In this video:
Preparing rocky Mediterranean soil for gardening
Using a broadfork to aerate compacted soil
Removing stones while improving soil structure
Adding vermicompost and organic matter
Installing drip irrigation to save water
Using biodegradable cardboard mulch sheets
Companion planting for organic pest control
Planting the first vegetables in the garden
Harvesting our first lettuce from the land
Living off-grid in Sicily comes with challenges: heat, drought, rocky terrain, and fire risks. But these constraints also push us toward more sustainable and resilient gardening solutions.
