Why We're Building Large Ponds on a Mountainside?

Ponds before trees? 🤔

For decades this mountainside was overrun by invasive mimosa. Then it burned. Now we're digging ponds into it before we plant a single tree.

Soon, this landscape will become a thriving cowork garden, with cascading ponds, native plants, and spaces designed for both people and wildlife. But before we can plant here trees, we first need to redesign the landscape itself to retain water, support biodiversity, and create a more resilient ecosystem.

The earthworks are underway. The foundations of the garden are taking shape across the slope, and all 5 ponds are already being built.
