5,000 Years Old Sumerian Computers — And They Have No Explantion

The oldest mathematical tablets in human history are not records of calculations that humans performed. They are pre-computed answer tables — square roots, cube roots, reciprocals, Pythagorean triples — organised as lookup systems so that users could find answers without performing the underlying mathematics themselves. This is the conceptual architecture of a computer. The Sumerians implemented it in clay five thousand years ago, with a sophistication that has no developmental precursor in the archaeological record. The Yale tablet contains the square root of 2 accurate to six decimal places. The edubba scribal schools preserved and distributed this knowledge through a standardised institutional curriculum. Nobody has explained where the original calculations came from.
