June arrived with a heat wave that has now passed but summer stayed in the English countryside.
The roses are blooming, gardens are filling with fruit and vegetables and England really looks like
a place from a fairy tale. At home life goes on as usual. Busy work life and the chaos of
ordinary life mixed with slower afternoons spent pottering around the house and time in nature.
This mixture is what makes it all so wonderful and beautiful and I wouldn't have it any other way.
When I think of it, slow living is not about doing nothing but about learning to navigate
the storms of everyday life with a calm mind and a grateful heart.
Baking peach cobbler with a pinch of cinnamon and I will serve it with vanilla ice cream.
I never made cobbler before but the recipe sounds simple and delicious.
Two words I strongly associate with summer so I think it will be perfect.
Just two weeks before the summer solstice the countryside is bursting with life.
The forest is rich and green, rose bushes are laden with flowers and cottage gardens
are alive with colorful blooms. For those interested in the deeper meaning of this season
I have posted the spiritual meaning of summer on the blog. I know many of my viewers
find summer challenging but I hope this post will encourage you to see its beauty and purpose.
Last week there was no video because I was busy finalizing my book and attending a two-day
ashtanga yoga workshop which I had been looking forward to very much. This summer marks 10 years
since I began my slow living journey and it feels as though I am coming full circle.
Ashtanga yoga practice and philosophy was the very first yoga book I bought a decade ago
so you can imagine my disbelief when I discovered that its author would be teaching in person in
Glastonbury. Of course I had to be there, it felt like a sign, perhaps a way to mark a milestone on
my journey. I feel incredibly emotional to share that my first book Slow Living for Modern Women
a life-changing guide to a calm content life in rhythm with nature will be launching soon
and today I'm finally ready to reveal the cover. As I told my email subscribers I don't want the
I wanted you to look at it and think yep it totally looks like something Adriana would make
it truly is a milestone for me. From starting my life over at 27 to writing an entire book about
the lessons I've learned over the last decade at 37 it feels incredibly special. I'm so grateful
for every step of this journey and for every lesson along the way even when it wasn't easy.
When it comes to changing your life it really is down to you. No amount of money or help from
others will make a difference unless the desire to change comes from within. I should warn you
that if you expect my book to simply tell you to relax, think positive thoughts and trust that
everything will be all right you may be disappointed. Slow living is about meeting
yourself where you are and learning to appreciate what you already have rather than chasing a
fantasy version of life reinforced by a culture of consumerism and instant gratification. I hope
my book will be a guide and a friend on your journey. My life has been dominated by writing
since last autumn so it feels strange not to be writing as much except for blog and my weekly
emails but I need this break. I'm starting book number two in September so for now I let the
beauty and abundance of the English countryside fill me and inspire me as it is exactly what I'm
going to be writing about. I know that I am incredibly privileged to live in such a fairy
tale setting but please believe me when I say that I never take it for granted and I'm grateful
every day for the chance I've had in life. Also never take my dear husband for granted who you
can see rescuing my wedding ring. I have a very bad habit of leaving my jewelry in random places
around the house. Rosa has found my wedding ring and wanted to bring it to me but dropped it and
somehow it ended up under the floorboards. I would be heartbroken to lose my ring as it is really
one of a kind. It's second hand which I accidentally spotted in the jewelry shop but it fit perfectly
without any adjustment as if it was meant for me. I am really attached to it so I'm glad Andre was
ready to rip a board off just to get it.
My peach cobbler is ready and the smell of cinnamon fills the kitchen. The recipe is
wonderfully simple and I know I'll keep coming back to it again and again. Cobbler is best served
warm ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and to me it's the perfect summertime treat.
I wish you a beautiful summer wherever you are in the world and thank you so much for all the warmth
and kindness I have received over the years. It really doesn't go unnoticed.
Thank you for watching and I hope to see you on the blog.
