Verin & Ourense - Galicia, Spain

This video is brought to you in part by Tour Galicia. All right so right now we're on the west side of Verín on the river Tamega and on the east side right there is the historical center. Back here at the top you have the castle of Monterrey and the area around the city is called Monterrey and this city is known for its wines. All right so we're gonna go into the historical center now we're gonna get in the car and then we're gonna go up to the castle it's close to four and it's about 2 30 so we're not gonna be able to see the castle the inside of it we'll be able to see the outside. Now let's go. Hello everyone so we're here at the castle of Monterrey this castle right here looks over the town of Verín. If you go 10 minutes south from here in car you reach the Portuguese border. It's a very popular attraction for people walking on the Camino de Santiago from the route of Portugal to Santiago and that is the walk of Saint James. Now let's go to Orense. Follow me. All right so we just arrived at our first major city the first of five major cities that we're visiting here in Galicia. Right now I'm gonna walk over to the Roman bridge which is right in front of me. See it right here. All right so I crossed the Roman bridge and then I couldn't really get a good view of the bridge because there's so many trees on the right and the left. So I came over to this bridge as you can see right here. All right from here we have the probably the best view of it. Obviously it's a little late and the sun is setting right there so it's not so great as it would be early in the day but tomorrow we'll come here earlier to get another shot. And I just wanted you to know that the Roman bridge was built by the Romans obviously to cross the Mino River. All these bridges didn't exist okay. It was rebuilt in the year 1230 with the Roman foundation with uh you know obviously the foundation on the bridge. There's seven arches and it spans 141 feet wide. And that right there is one of the best Roman bridges in Spain and it's not the longest you know the longest one is in Mérida but this one is just so different. It's beautiful I mean it's awesome. I've seen so many of them and this one looks really cool.
