Exploring Bozcaada Island in Turkey

Welcome to Bozcaada, a picturesque Turkish island in the northern Aegean Sea.

They don't know when the castle of Bozcaada was founded or by who, but they know it was occupied by the Byzantines, Genoese, Venetians and then reconstructed by the Ottomans.

From the castle you’ll get panoramic views over the marina and the town center.

Formerly known as Tenedos, the island was Greek until 1455. Strolling around the town you’ll see some of the original Greek homes among the Turkish mosques, fountains and hammams.

The narrow cobblestone streets are lined with plenty of places to grab a bite or have a coffee.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite I suggest heading to Eski Kahve Restaurant in the town center to try some local delicacies like the stuffed ravioli and stuffed grape leaves under the shaded veranda. They’re also famous for the refreshing nonalcoholic grape juice.

The local products have given rise to specialty shops that sell homemade jams, olive oil, cheese and tomato paste.

The southern part of Bozcaada is covered in vineyards and sandy coastline.

Most people come to Bozcaada on a day trip or weekend getaway since it’s just a short ferry ride from the mainland.
