The Story of Easter
In the butterfly village, Ben and Bella were not butterflies yet.
They were tiny, cute caterpillars crawling on the floor.
One day, Bella looked up at the sky.
Ben, do you think we're ever going to fly like the big butterflies?
I hope so. But right now, all I can do is eat leaves.
I'm tired of eating leaves. That's all we ever do.
Mommy flew in with snacks for her hungry little caterpillars.
Mommy, why don't we have wings?
We just crawl. You fly.
It isn't time yet. Soon you will get them.
When? It's taking so long.
God made caterpillars to become butterflies.
But first, you must wait and eat many leaves.
At night, Ben and Bella snuggled into their beds.
I wonder when we'll get wings.
Before Ben could answer, something strange began to happen.
Their bodies felt sleepy and still. They were becoming cocoons.
It was time for a big change.
What's going on?
Will we ever come out again?
I don't know. But maybe this is part of God's plan.
Mommy, Daddy, what's happening?
Mommy and Daddy came in.
Oh, you two look so cute.
You two are now cocoons. Isn't that amazing?
I don't feel cute. I feel stuck, Mommy. Please get me out.
This is no fun.
Soon you will come out of the cocoon. Be patient and wait.
God created us to transform into butterflies.
It's alright. This is part of God's beautiful plan.
Let me read you a true story about transformation and new life in Jesus.
They opened their Bible and found a beautiful story called Easter.
Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane.
He finished praying.
Suddenly, men appeared in the garden.
It was Judas, one of his disciples.
Judas arrived and betrayed Christ with a kiss.
This was the signal to show the soldiers who to arrest.
The men took Jesus and arrested him.
They took Jesus to the house of Caiaphas, the high priest.
Caiaphas asked,
Are you the Christ, the Son of God?
Jesus said,
The high priest became very angry.
The teachers of the law and elders said Jesus deserved to die.
They hurt him.
Early in the morning, the leaders took Jesus to the governor, Pilate.
Pilate asked,
Are you the King of the Jews?
Jesus answered,
You have said so.
The chief priests and elders accused Jesus of many things.
Pilate said,
Jesus has done nothing wrong.
He is innocent.
During the festival, the governor would release one prisoner chosen by the crowd.
Pilate asked,
Which one do you want me to release?
Barabbas or Jesus the Messiah?
The crowd shouted,
Barabbas!
Barabbas had done very bad things.
Pilate asked,
What did you do with Jesus?
They shouted,
Crucify him!
Pilate wanted to free Jesus.
He asked,
Why? What wrong has he done?
They shouted even louder,
Crucify him!
Pilate washed his hands in front of the crowd.
He released Barabbas
and handed Jesus over to be crucified.
The soldiers took Jesus into the praetorian.
They put a purple robe on him.
They made a crown of thorns and placed it on his head.
They put a staff in his hand and hurt him.
They took off the robe and put his own clothes back on him.
The soldiers took Christ away to crucify him.
As they were going out,
they met a man named Simon from Cyrene.
They forced him to carry the cross for Jesus.
They came to a place called Golgotha,
which means place of the skull.
They offered Jesus wine mixed with something bitter,
but he refused to drink it.
It was nine in the morning.
The Lord Jesus Christ was crucified.
Above his head they placed a sign that said,
The King of the Jews.
Jesus said,
Father, forgive them.
They do not know what they are doing.
The soldiers cast lots and divided his clothes.
They sat and watched over him.
People walking by made fun of Jesus.
Two rebels were crucified with him,
one on each side.
One of them mocked the Lord.
But the other said,
I deserve punishment, but Jesus has done nothing wrong.
Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.
The Lord said,
Today you will be with me in heaven.
At noon, darkness came over the whole land.
It stayed dark for three hours.
At three in the afternoon,
Jesus cried out in a loud voice,
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Someone gave him wine vinegar on a sponge.
Jesus cried out in a loud voice,
It is finished.
He gave up his spirit.
At that moment, the curtain of the temple was torn in two,
from top to bottom.
The earth shook.
The soldier standing there said,
Surely this man was the Son of God.
Some women were watching from a distance,
including Mary Magdalene.
On Friday evening,
a rich man named Joseph,
who was a follower of Jesus,
went to Pilate and asked for Jesus' body.
Joseph took Jesus from the cross.
He placed Christ in his own new tomb,
cut out of a rock.
Nicodemus came to help.
Then he rolled a big stone in front of the entrance.
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were watching.
After the Sabbath, early on Sunday morning,
there was a strong earthquake.
An angel of the Lord came down from heaven.
The guards were so afraid.
The angel went to the tomb,
rolled back the stone, and sat on it.
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
They were surprised.
The angel said to the women,
Do not be afraid.
I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified.
He is not here.
He has risen just as he said.
Go quickly and tell his disciples.
The women hurried away from the tomb.
Suddenly, Jesus met them.
Greetings!
He said.
They came to him, held his feet, and worshipped him.
Jesus said,
Do not be afraid.
Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee.
There they will see me.
What an amazing story of redemption!
Why did Judas betray Jesus?
Judas loved money and lived for money.
The book of Zechariah chapter 11 verses 12 to 13
had already foretold Judas' betrayal.
It says that Jesus would be sold for 30 silver coins.
The money would be put in the temple
and used to buy a potter's field.
Caiaphas was the most religious man,
but he was evil.
Only following religion and many rules
does not mean you love God.
God wants our hearts.
We obey God because we love him,
not because we have to.
Jesus suffered a lot.
Jesus paid a high price for our sins
and died because he loves us.
Because Jesus died and rose again,
we can live with him in heaven.
Jesus died, so why is he alive?
Jesus never sinned, so he defeated death.
Christ is risen from the dead, he is alive.
He is the son of God who died in our place
to give us eternal life in heaven.
I want to live forever with Jesus.
How can I go to heaven?
You need to believe that Jesus is the son of God
and repent from your sins.
Read the Bible.
It is the most beautiful book in the whole world.
I believe in Jesus and I repent from my sins.
I will live forever with Jesus in heaven.
I believe in Jesus too.
Jesus is the son of God.
I love God's word.
Many days passed.
It was Sunday morning and sunlight poured through the window.
I'm so excited to get wings.
Me too.
What does it feel like?
To fly.
It must be amazing.
We are going to look so different.
Will you still know who I am?
Suddenly, the cocoons began to shake.
A tiny split appeared.
Look, I see light.
Yay, I'm leaving this dark place.
Ben and Bella pushed.
The cocoons split open.
Out came Ben and Bella.
Not as caterpillars, but as beautiful butterflies.
But they were still sticky and wobbly.
Ben, we're all slimy.
This feels so weird.
Slowly, they began to dry.
We have wings.
They dried.
I can stretch them and fly.
Your wings are pink, Bella.
Your favorite color.
Your wings have stars of David.
That's so cool.
God made you so special.
Mommy, Daddy, come and see.
We are new creatures.
We can fly.
We are finally butterflies.
My sweet babies are all grown up.
Let's go test out your new wings outside.
Are you sure their wings are dry enough?
Mommy, don't worry. It will be so fun.
I want to fly outside.
Let's go.
I love flying.
Bella, we are new again.
This feels like the Easter story.
We were in a dark place.
But it was not the end.
It was transformation.
Jesus went into the tomb.
It looked dark and hopeless.
But on the third day, he rose again.
He is alive.
We were in cocoons.
And came out new.
If someone belongs to Jesus, they become a new creation.
The old life is gone.
A new life has begun.
The tomb became victory.
The cocoon became wings.
Under the bright sun on Easter Sunday,
two brand new butterflies flew free.
Reminding everyone that with Jesus,
death is not the end.
It is the doorway to new life and heaven.
Our wings are sparkling.
And our hearts are filled with joy for Jesus.
Thank you for watching Bible Butterflies.
May the Lord be glorified and known in all the earth.
