My Husky is scared of what sound? How to desensitize your dog to sounds and noises. Once again, Kira is scared of the hood vent above our stove. Today we are going to show you how she reacts to this noise, and what we are trying to do to remind her that it's not scary! So we give you a few tips on how to Desensitize your dog to noises. We don't want her to be afraid of anything, so we will be working with her to overcome this new fear that we have discovered.
Well, hello!
Guess what?
We're doing today, which is actually like 10 30 at night.
Okay, so let me give you a little bit of backstory before I show you what's going on.
So we are making maple syrup, which means there's a lot of steam happening.
Which means this is on and if you guys have seen previous videos, Kira does not like this.
So let's go find Kira. Well, there's Memphis
laying in the hallway.
Where's Miss Kira?
Where could... Well, hello!
How are you?
How's your stay in the bathtub?
Do you think you need a bath?
Yeah?
So Kira does not like the hood vent.
And she goes in waves with this.
Like there's times when she's a little bit less scared of it.
And then there's times like right now where she is, you can tell she's got a little bit of panting going on.
It's a little bit of anxiety, a little bit of fear.
You notice I'm not like super feeding into her.
Yeah, I'm sitting in here talking, but I'm not trying to feed into the fear because I don't want to reinforce it for her.
We've worked on this a lot. Like I said, she kind of goes in waves.
There's days where we can turn it on or turn the oven on and she has no reaction and then there's days where we turn
it on and she just
reacts. So she has a little bit of fear with the hood vent.
So for those of you that have dogs that are fearful like this, you know,
we have a couple of tips for you.
The first one is you definitely don't want to baby them.
Like I don't want to be in here hugging her and trying to make her feel better
because basically what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna reward her and with praise and that's not necessarily a good thing because she's gonna
think, oh every time I get scared you're gonna come in here and pet me and I like that.
So that's one of the things we try not to do.
What? What do you think? Yeah? Are you having fun? Are you taking a bath?
Yeah?
So when you kind of like talk a little bit more like that, you kind of like get her excited about things and she's like,
oh, what are we getting excited about? Let's get excited about something.
But you can tell she's still very much listening to the hood vent. Very much. Where, you know, you got Memphis over here.
She's like guys, I'm just chilling. Kind of just hanging out. It's all good. I'm just hanging out.
So yeah, we've actually done a few different things with Kira.
We've talked to some people about this for a while.
We actually would run that fan,
but we would also have like the TV and stuff on and that seemed to help her for a little bit.
But every once in a while, she kind of just falls back into this. We don't really know why...
Oh, you want out? You can get out.
We don't really know why that's the thing that scares her and the reason the last video I did on this,
she was much younger and she was actually in our small shower.
This time she's in our big bathtub because this, this door was just open. So she had the freedom to come in here.
What? I'm gonna sit back down. I'm just gonna lay in the bathtub. This is a very common thing as well.
I bet some of you in the comments have probably seen something like this before.
Like if there's a thunderstorm happening or your dog freaks out, they tend to hide in bathtubs or showers.
I think it's because it cancels a little bit of the noise. She can't hear as much down there.
She feels a little bit more comfortable down there. You can see she's already stopped panting.
She's definitely listening to what's happening. I think the fan is off.
Did you shut the fan off? So the fan, the fan is now off. You can see she's actually stopped panting.
She's laid down. She's already starting to get a little bit calmer. I'm not gonna coax her out of here.
I'm gonna let her come out of here on her own when she feels comfortable doing it.
But as I was saying a few seconds ago,
we have like taken and put her in that room with us and had the fan on really low and given her a bunch of treats
to kind of just show her that it's, it's not as scary as you think.
But uh, she still sometimes falls back into this. Yeah, so we just gotta work through this with you, huh?
You guys, it's kind of scary. Not really sure why, but it kind of is.
Alright, well, I'm gonna go back out here and you can come out and hang out with us whenever you want.
Let us know down in the comments below. You experienced something like this with your dog?
What have, what have you done to help your dogs overcome these small fears that they sometimes have?
Because like I said, it's been a work in progress with Kira. Every once in a while, she still resorts back to this.
Yeah, you're still gonna hang out in here for a little bit? That's okay.
Alright you guys, we hope you enjoyed today's video. As always, thanks so much for watching.
Thanks for subscribing. Stay positive, dream big, and we will see you again soon.
Maybe we should just give you a bath while you're in here.
No?
Alright, good night Pawdience!
