I'm Dr. Lori. I'm in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the Penn Hills Goodwill store. You think
everything's overpriced thrifting? I'm going to show you you're wrong. You should recognize
platinum when you see it. So silver, a little bit more gray, and sometimes they'll say platinum. So
this bowl is beautiful. Look at the inside. Make sure there's no cracks. And then right there,
there's the mark says platinum. A lot of them will say platinum. Some of them will say sterling.
So if you've got a platinum one of these, it's really quite nice. This one is a nice rounded
bowl with a nice platinum trim. It's not cracked or chipped or coming off. That's a really nice
piece. What do they want for it? They want $2.99 for it. Now it's a ceramic bowl. The value in this
is in the platinum band. The rim value on this piece dates to about the 1960s and value on this
piece is going to be easily $40 for $2.99, three bucks to get 40. That's pretty good. These are
fruit dishes. So you put a little bit of fruit and this is the dish for your fruit salad.
This is lusterware. See how thin it is? It's really thin, very thin bone china, lusterware,
transferware image. But these are German. These are German made and really nice, good condition,
early, early part of the 20th century. So early 1900s. This is a nice piece. What do they want
for this? They want $3.99, $3.99 for this. So this piece is a $50 bowl and then it has one, two,
three, four, five, six of the fruit bowls that go with it. They go around and you serve fruit
salad out of it. How much do they want for each one? They want $1.99 for each one. That's a little
high for that because these are worth $5. You're going to pay $2 for them. You're still going to
make some money off of those. And again, I leave all these things for you. I don't buy them and say,
oh, I'm going to sell them back to you. I'm going to buy them here cheap at Goodwill. And then I'm
going to buy it, sell them back to you on my, on my eBay store or whatever store somebody else in
another channel might have. I don't do that. I leave them here. I show you what it is. I show
you what to look for and I leave them here. Bavarian. This is the Bavarian, of course, Johan
piece, a really nice example in very good condition. And, you know, if you look around,
you might find partial sets, almost full sets of this kind of stuff here in your Goodwill. This is
a gravy boat. It's a gravy boat with an attached underplate and that's how it should be described.
Gravy boats always have a handle. Sauce boats don't. Hey, look at this surprise. This is a
sauce boat. It doesn't have a handle. It has two spouts, basically. That's for sauce. That's for
red sauce or Bernays or Bordelais sauce. This is for gravy. Gravy boat has a handle so you can
pour it over the mashed potatoes with the underplate to keep everything nice and nice and
neat. So you saw the mark. How much do they want for this? Wow. $4.99. You're definitely taking
that home. That's a beautiful, very well-known maker, of course, in Bavaria. It's Johan Haveland.
You've heard of Haveland in Limoges, France. This is Johan Haveland. Value on this is going to be
about $45. So you're getting it for 10%. So that's a deal. And this particular piece is actually
made in England. It's an English piece. It's $3.99. It has a little bit more wear. I mean, the Johan
Haveland comparative piece, of course, has less wear. It looks like it's almost brand new. This
particular piece, while it's made in England and it's only $3.99, value on it is about $20.
This is carnival glass from the 70s. Heavy. Heavier. They want $3.29 each and it's a little
bit expensive. They're worth about five each. That's a knockoff. Too lightweight. That's a
knockoff. Made recently, within the last 20 years. And this is the real deal. That's the 1950s. That
one, of course, is pressed glass. That's a nice piece. $4.99. They know that that's the real deal.
I like the edge as well. So value on that's $20. Look at this piece of crystal. Heavy. Gotta do two
hands with that. So that's really heavy. See the thickness right here. You can see the thickness.
It does have a little bit of damage right there in the saw tooth. That's what this pattern is
called around the rim. But this is a heavy, nice piece of cut glass. So $5.99. It's a little high
for that because is it worth $20? It's probably worth $20. So to pay six to make 20, for some
money you're making. But I would say this one, because of the damage, I would probably leave it
here. But it is a nice example. And it shows you some of the things you're looking for. You're
looking for a lot of cuts in the flowers. See all the cuts. And you're also looking for the sawtooth
pattern, which of course is this up and down. Looks like the tooth teeth of a saw, right? Sawtooth.
Sometimes there's a central motif as well. Almost walked by those. I wouldn't walk by those.
Beautiful, right? Hand painted with transfer wear. Gilt around the banding. Beautiful for the
flowers. The couples are Rococo, which means they're based on the French designs of the 18th
century of lovers in a garden. And look for the mark. Maybe you all recognize it. But there are
the blue cross swords. Very well known to Meissen. The, of course, German, the German tradition of
Meissen. You can see that this piece has nice, again, glaze here. A little bit of loss here.
They want $5.99 for it. And it's really beautiful. And what's better about it is there's two of them.
So those are nice. For $10, each one's $30. So I'm here at Goodwill. It's Saturday. The store's
been open two, two and a half hours. And everyone says, oh, there's no bargains. Can't find anything.
Everything's overpriced. Oh, it's terrible. Let's just look here and see if we can find something
that is worth some money. How about this for a bargain? $2.99. Do you know what she is?
She's a Boyd's Bear. The Boyd's Collection Bear. She has her original outfit. This was her
original outfit with the original bow intact. No odors. I always smell stuffed animals. You
want to make sure these things, because they can't hold odors. Here's the tag. Boyd's Collection.
Tag is intact. Everything looks good. She's beautiful. What do you think she's worth?
She resells $40. Yep. And I'm leaving her here for you because I don't want to compete with you.
You know, remember other people are buying this stuff low. They're putting it on their channel
and then they're trying to sell it back to you on their eBay store. I'm not doing that.
If you want to be able to identify these pieces with the loop, you know, get in there with your
loop. You can buy the loop right here. Knockoffs. So you see this piece, you think about Hummel
figurines. First thing you should look for is condition. You notice the bow on the violin is
broken. Okay. Damage. So you should just keep walking by, but this will teach you something.
First of all, look at the face. The face has two rounded eyes. Those eyes are too rounded or
accentuated the roundness of the eyes to be Hummel figurines. It's earthenware ceramic. It's hand
painted like Hummel, but it's made in Japan because of the eyes. So if you look at the mark,
you can see that the mark here, if you move back the Goodwill label, the mark here says
made in Japan because of course it is a knockoff of the Hummel figurines. This piece, they want
$3.99 for it. Too expensive. I would leave it there because it's damaged and not really worth it.
I like crossbodies. I always tell you that because when you're shopping with crossbodies,
it's easier for you to shop with that. This is Forever 21. It doesn't look too bad. $7.99,
it's bad enough to leave it. I would say leave it. Why? Because there is some dirt over here
and there's also some stains here. So I would say you got to leave it for this. And then we've got
a Nine West, but very dirty. I think this might come off. I really think that might come off.
It does look like it's in pretty good condition. Makeup usually doesn't come off. Makeup's harder
to get off and a lot of things. The snap, the snap has to really be strong. That's a strong snap.
And then look here because you're going to see the snap manufacturer. The hardware manufacturer's
are going to be on a lot of these. So you want to make sure when you're trying to figure out,
is it the real Nine West or a real whomever manufacturer that these are the actual people
who they buy their hardware from? Because a lot of the times it looks good, but then the hardware
is made by somebody who is not associated or affiliated with the actual manufacturer.
I don't like totes. I never liked totes. I like the thing to be zippered. So to me,
I know people like this, but I would like it to be zippered because I like people to,
I don't like people to be able to get back down in that bag, but people like totes.
Oh, this is nice. That's nice. The leather is really kind of nice. It's small. Universal
thread goods company. So, but these are the types of things that you'll see in sort of souvenir
areas, right? So like old town San Diego might sell these types of things because they look a
or maybe if you're in Santa Fe, that kind of thing, but that's a nice piece. How much is this?
$7.69. That piece is worth $30. Browns and beiges always are popular when it comes to purses. Okay.
Look on the inside because if it looks like that, you don't want to buy it. I don't care how much
it costs. This purse is shot. So they used it a lot. Oh, that's all right. It's their purse.
They can do that. $7.69. Quilted. Whenever you see quilts, you know, I want you quilted.
I want you to see, also look at this. It's got two hooks, but no, no strap. So if the strap is
missing, now you're going to get $7.69. You're keep decreasing the real value for that. So I'd
leave that one here because it doesn't have all the pieces. Here's Liz Claiborne. So Liz
Claiborne, the style says, oh, I'm from the late nineties. It's in pretty good shape. How's the,
how's the snap? Snap's strong. Liz Claiborne, there's your mark. $9.99. You can see the label
right there. So for $9.99, you could probably get $25 for that. I don't care anything with a skunk
on it. I'm leaving. I'm not wearing a skunk purse. People like skunks, but not me. So there's that.
I like this, but it's a Mary Kay bag and I like it because of the color. So that attracted me
first and the shape. But basically this is a bag for, I guess it's a bag for selling Mary Kay.
It was kind of interesting. So it's kind of like a wallet, pocketbook, oversized bag.
How much is this? Should be cheap. That's not cheap enough. If this were two bucks, I'd say,
yeah, grab it, but it's probably only worth 10. So to buy it for six, I would leave that there.
What happened to this? Oh, that's a Rosetti. Okay. Not bad. Is it really a Rosetti? Made
in Cambodia. A vinyl. It's in okay shape. I would leave that there. Kind of like this.
I like that shape. Has a nice logo tag on it and it's quilted. Quilted always makes you feel like,
it's Chanel because they came up with the quilted. This is Vera Bradley, $7.69. Here's your interior.
Here's the Vera Bradley tag. And Vera Bradley gives you a nice logo piece now here. I don't
know if you can see the VB here. It goes that way. So Vera Bradley for $7.69. It's quilted.
There's no smell. It's very typical. This is like brand new. So in the stores,
75 bucks. Vera Bradley. This I would definitely take. That's beautiful. I'm
leaving it here for you. Found some great stuff. I told you so. More to come.
