Built on Pillars: The Smartest Way to Live With Nature? | House on Pillars
#woodenhouse #hillhouse #landscape #architecture
House on Pillars by Sanden+Hodnekvam Architects is a compact, low-budget home in Norway that carefully integrates with its natural surroundings by elevating the structure on wooden pillars to preserve the untouched terrain below. Designed for a young couple, the elongated form weaves between existing rocks and trees, prioritizing minimal site impact while maximizing outdoor space. The layout features a functional core with flexible living areas, enhanced by sliding partitions and a central light-filled space with a glass roof that strengthens the connection to nature. Through precise 3D site modeling and the use of simple, honest materials like exposed wood, pine surfaces, recycled brick, and a corrugated metal roof, the house achieves a balance between efficiency, sustainability, and a deep respect for the landscape.
