All right, made it to the world famous New Orleans, home of jazz, Mardi Gras, and gumbo.
Considered one of the most unique cities in the U.S., named after the Duke of Orleans,
and known for its French and Spanish Creole architecture, there's no way better to see
it than riding a bike through it. I gotta say the roads around the French Quarter aren't the best,
good thing I got a comfortable seat. New Orleans reminds me of a culturally intense city like
Buenos Aires or Paris. It almost doesn't feel like I'm in the United States.
So here we are at St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square in New Orleans,
and it's quite a sight to behold.
So this is the French Market, a bunch of really cool stuff from trinkets to alligator heads.
It's really culturally diverse in New Orleans, more than I ever thought possible.
Hi, may I help you?
Can I have a gator on a stick?
Sure thing.
Well, it's definitely gator-y. Almost tastes like chicken, kind of.
Kind of tastes like snake.
It does taste like gator.
That's a first.
So this is the historic Ninth Ward. This is basically the wall that broke when
Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, which is a huge natural disaster that happened here.
More than anything, I'm inspired by the resilient people of New Orleans,
who continue to rebuild this great city, and persevered through it.
That's good.
What do you think about the bike? You like it?
My name's Nate. I'm a motorcycle mechanic, and I work here in New Orleans.
What do you think is the best part of New Orleans?
There's not a lot of stigmas as far as race, religions, cultures.
It just kind of melts together.
Geeks are just about everywhere.
So everybody here is almost like a friendly motorcycle family, regardless of what you ride.
They all just kind of get together and hang out.
What do you wish everybody to leave here with?
You would have had a good time. You would have made friends.
Looking forward to coming back and do some more riding.
So this is St. Louis Cemetery No. 3.
It's a very typical cemetery you see here in New Orleans,
where everybody's actually buried above ground.
This is actually below sea level.
So this is another unique site here that you don't find in many places in this country.
It's almost like I'm halfway around the world, yet I'm here stateside.
So welcome to Bourbon Street.
This is where Mardi Gras happens. This is where it's at.
This is where everybody comes to have some fun.
What's Bourbon Street all about?
It's about having a ridiculous time.
Well, I sure got the full New Orleans experience.
Friendly people.
Cajun spice.
And one comfortable ride, thanks to Vulcan S.
And I leave wanting more.
Next stop, Nashville.
