Bula Quo - Cinema Trailer - INDYUK Films - Director Stuart St Paul
This was one of many screenplays that Stuart St Paul had on a shelf, though nothing like the finished film which a whole year of film making lectures would take to explain.
Stuart St Paul as called by ITV to look after Quo while they were on Coronation Street, and as he had known them years and years ago when he was in the music industry, and know their manager they began a friendship again. The discussion about making a film went fast into pre-production, but Rick fell ill and the film was held.
When Stuart found a financier ready to take a risk on them in a Beatles-like Hard Days Night-like romp, Stuart kicked the film into production and directed it. He used his familiar family and friends. Laura Aikman, his daughter, played the posh intern who didn't know a thing about the band. Craig Fairbrass played their manager. Stuart's wife actress Jean Heard played the TV reporter and his son-in-law Matt Kennard played a print reporter.
The island was hit by a cyclone. The camera equipment was lost in transit to Fiji, and his friend David Hasselhof had to be replaced to date changes and Jon Lovitz came in. The fact anything was made from the island in disaster recovery with no transport, houses destroyed and no electricity in most places is a miracle. The caterer's premises were destroyed and there was little food at all for the crew in the first week.
Stuart then sold the film under limited license to Universal Pictures in the UK and other partners in Europe, retaining cinema distribution for his own company INDYK Films.
