MY FIRST VELVET MULE DEER With The V3X

What's up everyone we are uh heading west on the road heading to Nebraska today we met up with Derek in Des Moines and he's trailing behind us and we are actually two days heading out two days before season opens um to hopefully tonight get eyes on some bucks set up camp kind of have all day tomorrow to get get settled get everything ready hopefully get a game plan for these early season bucks and really capitalize on like day one day two a season to hopefully get a buck in velvet um i'm jack we got the new v3x with us this is going to be the first test run we got it dialed i spent like all week just getting it dialed shooting rod heads and we're sitting good we're camping in style this time we go we got this storm on in so it might might get them get them fired up tonight but we're just doing some afternoon scouting two days before season it's off to a good start all right morning number one make up some coffee put a pile in the trucks start rolling around first light see what we can find the thing about early season mule deer is it's so hard to find deer in the middle of the day so Derek just challenged me into a hundred yard single arrow shoot off so we're gonna see who's ever closest to center and it's windy this is easy that didn't hit foam it didn't where'd it go just left left what happens if we both missed uh i don't know do we try it again go to 80. nope shot right right yeah all right don't take 100 yard shots in the wind folks should we grab another one and just send it or what yeah probably okay okay hit oh that looked good yeah definitely closer than me well Derek is still looking for his arrow but we both missed the first time we both blame it on the wind and then we both hit it the second time and mine was just a little bit closer as you can see Derek's still looking sun's getting lower we're about to go drive around scout hopefully find some more bucks we have one really good spot pinned hopefully maybe like one or two more spots or some bucks are hanging out in some fields and opening day tomorrow well we're getting hype here at camp this morning um there's deer everywhere we can feel them we can smell them it's just a matter of uh it getting light enough for us to shoot it's opening day Nebraska September one and uh we're pulling up to a familiar spot we spent a lot of time here last year we really didn't see any good deer last night when we were glassing this but we saw a lot of deer we're gonna go for a little walk because it's actually perfect stocking conditions a little wet windy and there's some deep cuts in here where we saw that buck yesterday all right so we've got four deer spotted half a mile away out and some milo one's a big four by four really deep back forks there's a big three by three with them that's probably got a bigger frame so here we are you know braving the elements it's misting can't see very well haven't seen deer all morning but here we are putting in the time Chris and Mitch back at camp right now sitting in a lawn chair eating lunch breakfast time meanwhile here we are turning up bucks improving the hunt that's what this is about bet it unless they move like way left and I didn't see him for a while the one's the big one we saw yeah sure he's one of the big ones probably the one we got the photo of all right let's just flip and then winner gets to do it okay yeah fine you call it in the air if you if you win I call I am what I call I am just call whatever you want to if you win you stock if you lose I stock all right ready go heads tails go we need to shave about 30 of these rows off oh he's running running the other one's still here so that just happened um he was like 45 and I thought he was 50 and I shot over him by like just barely but somehow I shot directly over top of this bedded buck right here and he never stood up so we still have a good one bedded at like 30 yards right now Derek's got what I think within like super close I'm not exactly sure what happened but he had a swing and a miss so what we're gonna do is there's the initial group still way out in the milo field and Derek's off on the edge still what happened is is the buck broke off and like went right by them but what we're gonna do is try to get after these bucks right in the middle and then hoping Derek still stays over there so in case they bust or something happens he's still in position or if they go by him we snuck in here we got all of our landmarks we still got Derek in the same exact spot because he thinks the buck he missed is still like right there with another just over it was probably 40 and I shot for 45. I kick myself but I don't because I didn't have time to range or anything you know I range where you guess he was gonna be and it was like high 40s and he was just low 40s went right over him dude I did the same exact thing you did I missed yeah I uh like range where I thought he was gonna be and he was trotting and I stopped him and then just like 40 and I thought he was like yeah and I thought he was like 40 I think I had it like 47. Well we're back driving around it's 6 30 hopefully hopefully we can see one bedded real quick and then we're gonna get or if we don't see one bedded real quick just driving around and whatnot we're gonna get in position to kind of sit for the last hour light see if anything can come out we saw a couple good ones up over here last night so kind of depending on what we see just driving driving this road real quick. Okay guys we just spotted one Mitch spotted one we're coming around just to set up for the afternoon sit big velvet in a good spot bedded but he did see us but they didn't spook so I think they'll just stay there we're gonna come around on them see what's up we just stood up completely wrong it was a uh fantastic day we just couldn't make anything happen so uh that's that's good at least now hopefully tomorrow we just make something happen go like 10 feet in like if you sink there ain't no way oh you think right here on the sink yes that is not good doing zr2 things you want to go the whole way huh holy crap I told you it was not gonna be good that was everything I had dude more low I know what did you get on the grass a little bit on this side yeah I was trying to I knew I was thinking that bounce through that grass but honestly grabbing some grass grabs way more traction than the dirt day three morning kicking it off saw some super good bucks just down in the ditch probably we can't hunt but good start for sure we're gonna get somewhere high overlooking a new milo field it's kind of tucked back in here but they're loving the milo so we're gonna we're gonna focus just spotted the one I missed on opening day strip velvet we just came out of this milo field because we know they're out here just opened we got lucky when we did it's like 200 yards this way we just spotted a buck we call droppy dude he just shot him oh yeah he's dead he's dead 65 I can't believe we got away with what we just did drop he's down dude drop time I can't believe that worked so basically we knew he was bedded somewhere in here and we like they were tossing tassels trying to get him to stand up and then we were just like hi he must have something must happen so we're just walking and he stood up and he just stared right at us and we just kind of froze and mule deer especially early like sometimes they don't know what happened so that's kind of what he did and then he just walked down the row right from us and as soon as he got up over this hill I went over some rows to get in line with him and then when I popped up over he started going this way on the row so he got a clear shot and he was like oh what's that and that was just enough time to get him smoked must have hit the uh opposite shoulder there's Derek in the clear so while all this was going on Derek was working these back cuts and he watched the whole thing go down from that top of the hill right there unreal dude he's cool I haven't even looked down there all right ready yeah look at that that's awesome droppy drop trying to crown it's cool but he's not he's got some ass to him too it's not the biggest one it's not the biggest one but hey hey he's got a giant body too doesn't he like he's a heifer he's a heifer skyline this morning he looked like a giant and I was like really he's gonna die today what's that once that flip gets that switch he's not that's awesome on the board I'm gonna get you one yes
