The Smarter Way to Build on a Steep Slope (This House Proves It) | Counter-Slope House
The Counter-Slope House by YH2 Architecture is a 4,530-square-foot residence set on a steep, forested site overlooking Lake Memphremagog in Potton, Canada. Rather than imposing a single dominant structure, the design breaks the home into two interconnected volumes with dual-sloped roofs that echo the natural terrain and reduce visual impact. The house is carefully embedded into the slope, creating a subtle relationship with the landscape while maximizing views and natural light. A rooftop terrace further enhances the experience of the site, offering a rare horizontal vantage point within the steep topography. Overall, the project emphasizes a quiet architectural approach that harmonizes with its surroundings through thoughtful form, placement, and spatial organization.
