The Algerian Air Force (Al-Quwwat al-Jawwiya al-Jaza'eriya) is the aerial branch of the People’s National Army of Algeria, responsible for defending national airspace, supporting ground forces, and maintaining strong air-defense capabilities. It was formally established after Algeria gained independence in 1962. Headquartered in Algiers, the Algerian Air Force operates one of the most powerful air fleets in Africa. Its inventory includes Su-30MKA multirole fighters, MiG-29 fighters, Su-24 strike aircraft, and Yak-130 trainers, along with Il-76 and C-130 transport aircraft and various helicopters such as the Mi-28 and Mi-24.
