Adding New Goldfish To Planted Goldfish Aquarium

Hey everybody, welcome back to the fish room and today we're going to be adding some new fish
and we're going to be doing some tank maintenance. Let's get right into this and start with the new
fish. So as you can see this is my goldfish aquarium. I've just got one little goldfish in
here right now and that's definitely something I want to change. Goldfish are pretty social fish
and they definitely enjoy having partners. Of course you can just have one and they'll be
relatively fine as long as of course you've got a large enough tank but I wanted to add a few more.
Before we get started though this will not be a permanent setup for what will end up being these
three goldfish. I definitely am going to be upgrading them in the future. This is a 29 gallon
aquarium with a marine land penguin filter that's rated for I believe a 60 gallon on it. So there's
plenty of filtration, plenty of water circulation and this tank will do just fine for these guys.
However eventually I'll definitely want to give them some more swimming room as these fish get
bigger and I'll definitely be upgrading them but for now this 29 gallon will suit them just fine.
The hardscape does take up a good bit of swimming room in this tank as you can see.
Of course they've definitely got a lot of space in here. As you can see all this upper I'd say
upper third is completely open and all around the rocks they can fit and I've made sure to design
the scapes so that they can't get stuck in any of these areas and also these rocks are very stable
so they'll be just fine. However I might end up taking out these rocks as much as I like them
however good they look. Of course the fish will always come first when designing your aquarium.
It works just fine for this one goldfish but we'll have to see how these rocks work out for
the trio. And we've got our new goldfish in here. So it's a bit of a funny story how I got these
guys. Well maybe not exactly funny but definitely at least interesting enough. So these fish actually
came in as a donation to a pet store and one of my friends that works at this pet store took them
home along with a bunch of other goldfish that these guys had lived with in an 80 gallon aquarium
for most of their lives. However when my friend got them home the other goldfish were really
bothering these guys and kind of harassing them so he needed to find a new place for them and I
happily took them in. I am sorry if I don't know the exact type of goldfish these guys are they're
definitely fancy goldfish and I think I vaguely know what they are at least their types but
correct me if I'm wrong. So these are established fish they're not just coming straight from a pet
store they definitely don't have any diseases or anything so we should be just fine. In this bag
we've got a red cap oranda right here and as you can see it's a relatively large fish he lived with
his previous owner for a while and they definitely took really good care of him. This is a pretty
large goldfish bigger than the one that I have and it'll be a stunning fish when we get him into his
aquarium. Again these fish are still going to get plenty bigger and I definitely have big plans for
upgrading these guys. The second goldfish is a bit smaller don't really know what this guy is I believe
he is a you know honestly I have no idea and I really don't care what kind of goldfish these
guys are I just think they're really cool looking fish. If you guys know what specific type these
guys are definitely let me know because I really don't have any idea what this guy is. I know the
names of a lot of fish but when it comes to goldfish varieties I'm very new to this. These
guys are just stunning fish right here and this guy's I'd say almost maybe tennis ball size this
guy's more of a golf ball so they definitely have a lot of growing to do. Again these guys will be
going into a bigger tank in the future don't be too worried about that. For now let's prepare this
tank for them. I'm going to get things started here by doing a little bit of rescaping. I want
to open up some space in this tank just give these guys a little extra swimming room and I'm going to
do that by removing this big rock right here and shifting things around so that there's just a
little extra room. Although I think this scape looks really cool as it is I just don't want to
take away too much swimming space I don't want to sacrifice form over functionality for our fish.
Definitely a big heavy rock right here our Anubias is already attaching to it so I have to pull that
off take some of these snails off pull this guy out. Definitely looks cool in there but doesn't
serve function anymore. I'm going to replace it with this much smaller rock right here and just
try and get a bit of aesthetics out of it again. Obviously it's not the right color because it
doesn't have any of this cool algae growing on it but just do a little scaping here getting the
tank looking good and with a little extra swimming room. Here we are done with a quick little quote
unquote rescape and certainly doesn't look as good as before but sometimes you have to sacrifice
some aesthetics for the functionality for your fish. The rock definitely looks out of place
doesn't have any algae on it but it'll blend in eventually and I really don't think it looks too
bad doesn't look nearly as good but there's plenty more swimming space for our new fish
in the tank as it is now. As you can see doesn't look perfect but it'll definitely serve the fish
well and there's a ton of swimming space all around these rocks now where there used to be
just unusable space right here. So had to sacrifice some looks but definitely better for the fish now.
Quick water change just to freshen things up in here.
All righty most of the water change is done didn't fill the tank up all the way
so that the water from the bags doesn't displace too much when we are float acclimating these guys
but the tank is looking good so it's time to get these guys acclimating. I'm going to start by
turning off this light and we'll just let these guys float acclimate until all the temperatures
are matching. All righty so while we're waiting for them to acclimate why don't we do a little
bit of work on the 36 gallon aquarium. The tank of course doesn't look too bad just needs a little
bit of work. Our new black ruby barbs are looking absolutely fantastic but it's kind of hard to see
them through the dirty glass and all these leaves are just not looking too good on some of these
plants. There's tons of new leaves coming in I just haven't bothered to trim the old ones so
leaves like this on the anubias and this on the crypt right here and this tiger lotus leaf all
these just need to be trimmed up. This moss definitely needs to be taken care of and the
whole tank just needs a bit of a once-over just to kind of touch things up and make things look good.
All right I think it's a great time to get these guys add to their new tank and introduce them to
our pre-established goldie. All right everybody don't those goldfish look great in their new home
right off the bat. Both our new guys are settling in wonderfully. I believe that they're both
females because this guy right here my original one definitely a male and he has been harassing
both of them a little bit as they were new in the tank chasing him around. In fact I actually
found some eggs in these anubias roots right here so they've been doing some breeding behavior
that's pretty cool they've been spawning. You also might notice that on this guy the red cap
there is some red in the fins which can indicate stress but again that's just because they're new
in the tank and also my little male right here has been a little bit boisterous with them.
But the fish is perfectly fine as you can see there's really not too much of these red veins
in the fins so this will go away pretty soon as the fish settles in a little bit more. As you can
see my original goldfish is way more comfortable with me than these guys are. These guys are
actually tricky to get a good footage of close up but I do my best. But these guys look awesome
in this tank. I was a little worried that these guys look a little bit too big for this 29 gallon
but I think at this point they are perfect. Look at these guys go. I actually really love
both these guys and I really love having goldfish in the fish room. Oh of course I
love this little guy too but these new additions are just stunning as well. Tank looks great with
new rock formation. I think it opened up a lot of space and I think it's actually an improvement
and everything is just been going great in this tank. I got to make sure I keep up on my water
changes as I've been doing of course because these guys do produce a lot of ammonia. These are big
fish and this is again not a huge tank for them. It's plenty of space for them but not huge. You
can see the water is crystal clear. It's almost like they're flying. I did a water change yesterday
and everything looks awesome in this tank. All right everybody that'll just about do it. Thank
you so much for watching. I'm sorry I haven't been as active these past couple weeks. I've just
been really busy and it's hard to find time to make videos like these but I do still enjoy it
and I'm really sorry if you guys have been missing these videos. Thank you so much for watching and
I'll see you guys next time.
