Rooted in the Forest, Floating Above the Ground | Residence SAB

Residence SAB is a 1,212-square-meter home designed by Govaert & Vanhoutte Architects in Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgium, carefully integrated into its wooded site. The house is composed of two distinct volumes resting on a floating concrete base: a transparent lower level that opens fully to the landscape and pool, and a more solid wooden upper volume that contains the private living quarters. Through its strong horizontal lines, floor-to-ceiling glazing, and restrained material palette of concrete, glass, and timber, the design creates a balanced relationship between openness and privacy while maintaining a constant visual and spatial connection to the surrounding forest.
