Whoa, this is gonna be a slog
Welcome back to the channel. So we're back for another couple of nights in the bush here
I got my canvas tent and wood stove, full sled load of gear
Backpack full of gear on my back and we're breaking this trail now. We had a fresh dump of snow last night
So it's pretty tough going here this morning
But the plan is to head on back in the country here and find a spot to set up for a couple of nights
Hoping to do a little bit of rabbit snaring in this video
Although we're not going to see many fresh tracks this morning because all this fresh snow
It just stopped snowing a couple hours ago. But anyways, we'll see what happens
Long as we get out there for a couple of nights spend a couple nights in the tent. That's the idea
So I'm gonna keep on pushing away here
Try and make my way as far as I can in this trail and eventually we'll
Get off the trail here hike down through the woods and find a little spot to set up a camp for a couple days
I'll apologize in advance for the wind noise
It's gonna be a windy couple of days I think
Gusts up to 70 kilometers an hour tonight
Looks like a pretty big drift coming up here
We got a pile of snow this year, but there's just no bottom to it as you can see right here
You can already start to see
Some of the little bag holes and stuff like that showing through. Oh
Slow and steady
Getting our cardio in today
Okay, just stop for a little breather now and came off the side of the trail here
My sled left it there
Go in the woods right here and set a couple of rabbit snares
So this is a spot where I've had sneers in the past
So even though there's no fresh tracks or anything here this morning after that fresh snow
I'm pretty confident. This is a good spot to set up a couple of snares. So I'll set a few here
We'll either check them tomorrow
Come back out the trail this far and check them or if not
We'll check them on the way the following day when I'm on the way back to the truck
Yeah, nice in the woods now with this nice fresh blanket of snow. It doesn't make it very easy for hauling gear, but
It looks nice
Esker camp axe once again
on this trip
I've been putting this to work this winter. It's been great
Alright, so I got two snares set up there. One is Millie, Millie, Millie, Millie
One is right here
All right. Here's the second snare
Haven't seen any fresh moose tracks yet this winter
On my few trips I've been out on. I guess they're all bedded down somewhere now
Waiting for spring to come
Like the rest of us
We got some fresh coyote sign here
There was a bunch out on the woods road before I started filming
And now we got some
Him right here. So this was early this morning
in the last few hours
We're gonna keep the dogs close. It's unlikely the coyotes are gonna bother us, but you never know
It all depends how hungry they are. I guess how brave they get. Oh
Rough spot in the trail here
Big bank here drops down to a water hole
So I was thinking maybe the trail will be broke by snowmobilers, but I don't even know if you would get through here
You have to watch what you're doing
You ended up down over that bank
You have a hell of a time getting up out of it
Well, I just broke it on another little bog here
so I think I'm gonna cross this one and
Get up to the other end of this and then I'll be trying to find a spot to settle away for evening
Starting to get tired now and
Still got a long afternoon ahead trying to get everything set up the tent and stove and cut all the firewood and everything. So
Soon be time to find a spot to stay for the night
What are you digging for Goosey? What is it?
What do you smell?
All right another bag behind us
So up here to the right
It's a nice spruce stand which usually means plenty of dry wood
And I've been up in here before I've done videos up here before actually
So I think that's where I'm gonna head try to get up over that bank right there
It's kind of hard to see but there's a bit of a hill
I got to get up which could be tough in this snow, but
We'll see how it goes and if I can get up over that bank and down through that spruce stand I'll be
laughing
All right
Well, I'm soaked in sweat
Good thing is we got the hot tent in the wood stove. So
once we get everything set up now, we'll be able to
Change into some dry clothes get the wood stove going and dry out all my wet sweaty clothes tonight
So these Esker tents are pretty easy to set up
you basically just stake out your four corners then put the center pole up stand the tent up and then I just
Tie out all your guy lines and stake out the intermediate
Stakes here in between the four corners. So still a bit of work involved obviously, but definitely much easier than
There's some setups that I've seen you don't have to cut a bunch of sticks or a bunch of poles
Basically just your one center pole and you can actually buy the telescopic one that goes with the tent
If you don't want to cut one when you get out in the woods
Yeah, other than that pretty straightforward
Spot like this. I don't have a lot of small trees and stuff by the tent to tie the guy lines out to
so I'll just use another stake drive that down in the snow and then
Tie my guy line out to that stake
And then bury them in with snow so they don't pull out
Okay, so we got the Esker Hudson wood stove out again on this trip
This is one that Esker sent out to me at the beginning of this season
So I'll use it on my last hot tent trip. If you guys haven't seen that video
I'm gonna put a link up on top of the screen here. You can check that one out
Their biggest stove that they make and it worked great for me on my last trip once again
You know when you have a big stove, obviously, it's heavier
So it's a little harder to carry around but once you get it out here get it set up
It's great because it gives you a really long burn time. So
Anyways, we're gonna get this set up now and then we'll start on firewood
So another nice thing about these stoves they come with these little holes right here in the legs
And what that allows you to do is run two sticks through the holes like I've got done here from the front leg
To the back leg and that just makes the stove a lot more stable
So as the snow around the stove starts to melt when the fire is burning
sometimes the stove can kind of tip on you become a little unstable and that can create some issues with your stove plate wanting to
Come become disconnected
so I usually run two sticks through like this and
The stove then is a lot more stable on top of the snow even as a snow starts to melt
So I brought my little collapsible cart this time for sleeping on so I didn't bring it on my last video but
Decided to bring it out this time because I was coming out for a couple of nights. So
Having a cart is nice definitely adds for a more comfortable sleep. It gets you up off the ground
only problem is Millie tends to make her way up onto the cart with me and
It's only small so it's not really big enough for
Me and her but anyways, we'll see how it goes
Firewood time. So I got the DeWalt battery chainsaw again worked well for me on my last trip. So I decided to bring it out again
I brought the folding box off for backup just in case this thing gives me any trouble but seemed to work good last time
So hope for the best
Here's our setup
So I got a ton of firewood cut that little chainsaw just saved me so much time and energy on this firewood
So I think I'm soon as I'm gonna get the fire going
A lot of times I'll hold off until just before I get into the tent for the evening to light the fire
But since I got a ton of firewood, there's lots of dry stuff just outside the tent and I got the little chainsaw
I'm not too worried about running out of firewood on this trip. Oh
Good boy. Bring it back. Good boy
Well, we're all tucked away in a tent here for the night
So I'll tell you it is hot in here now
Stove is really pumping out the heat
So I got the draft closed all the way down and I just actually got up and opened up the door on the tent
Try to let a little bit of heat out
So just pulling up some water now. I'm gonna have a coffee
Supper tonight is just some leftover rice with ground beef and vegetables left over from last night's supper
So I brought some of that out. I'm just gonna throw it up my frying pan here
Shortly and get that warming on the wood stove. It'll be a nice quick easy supper for tonight
The dogs are just laying down half to the side here. They're done for the night
Now I'm just gonna kick back and relax
Nice to get in the tent here get the wet clothes off, warm everything up, draw my clothes out, get my clothes hanging up top here
yeah, I'm just gonna feed the wood stove and
Relax for the evening
Tomorrow we'll be heading out and
Hopefully see some fresh rabbits on, be able to set a few sneers
Do a bit of trekking around on the snowshoes
Pass the day away
Well, it's 430, a couple of owls just outside the tent
Quite a racket they're making, talking back and forth
That must be just like real close, there's another one a little further away I can hear
That's pretty cool
Coffee is good this morning
So it's about 730
went back to sleep for a couple hours after those owls were outside there and
Just getting up on the go now. Kept the stove burning all night. No problem
It's the nice thing about this big wood stove
Once you fill it up, you're good for a few hours before you have to
Put any more wood in so stayed nice and toasty warm in here all night
Yeah, just going to kick back by the stove here for an hour or so, enjoy some coffee and breakfast and then we'll get out
Probably strap the snowshoes on and go for a little hike see if we can see any fresh rabbits on
so do a few rabbit sneers and
See what else we can get up to here today
Dogs are just outside eating their breakfast
Looks like a pretty good morning out there
Still pretty windy, but we're kind of tucked away down in this low spot here. So the wind is not really affecting us much
I can hear it howling in the trees up there, but
Nice and cozy here in the tent
So I picked up a fresh set of tracks here not far from the tent. Just set a snare right there
We'll carry on in the trail
Trails in pretty rough shape. Definitely haven't been anyone down through here this year on snowmobile a
lot of trees blowing down across the trail
Pretty good lead right here from last night
So you pass through here a couple different times or a couple of different rabbits one or the other
Quite a bit of fresh sign around so rabbits were out last night. I guess what those two that's what those two owls were doing
Hanging around up one of these trees here waiting for the great opportunity to pick off a rabbit
Pretty rough spots in the trail here
Don't know if the cameras picking that up or not, but it's probably a five foot
Drop right there. It's a big hole
so I guess I never got a chance to freeze up this year before snow went on top of it and now
We got a lot of bad spots here in the trail, that's why no one's been down through here I guess on a snowmobile
So we got probably half dozen or so snares set out now. I don't have a whole lot of
Snaring wire with me. Just got a small roll there and there's already some gone off of it
so probably only gonna get I don't know maybe eight or ten snares out total but
Quite a bit of fresh sign. So you never know. We might pick one up tonight
Nothing else we're getting out for a little adventure here and
Enjoying the beautiful scenery and absolutely beautiful out here today. Dogs are having a ball
It's a big reason why I got into doing this stuff
Dogs out and let them run free like they're supposed to
Well, looks like we got a fresh lynx track
on the trail up ahead there
dogs are gone up there, so
Dogs ran up ahead. So we're probably gonna mess up the track before I get up to it
Fresh lynx track. It's a fresh rabbit tracks right there
So at this point, I kind of realized that I got a long time without filming anything
so this happens sometimes when I'm out on trips, I just kind of lose myself and
lose track of time and just kind of find myself enjoying being out there and
Forget about the camera for a little bit
Anyways, we're back at camp now spent the morning out setting a few rabbit slopes exploring the country and now we're back by the tent
Chopping up some firewood having a little campfire and just enjoying the afternoon
Well, I've just been hanging around camp here for the afternoon I think I put out nine rabbit snares all together
So we'll check those tomorrow morning before we head out
Yeah, I've just been boiling the kettle and splitting up some more firewood I got a message from my wife there on my Zoleo
She says supposed to be minus 27 wind chill tonight
So that's gonna be a chilly one
So I spent a ton of time there cutting up some more firewood and I make sure I have more than enough for tonight
If we get that minus 27, it's not gonna be a good night to run out of firewood
So pretty sure I got lots of firewood stacked in that tent there now and should be good for the evening
Yeah, I'm just gonna hang out by the fire and relax and I got a piece of smoked salmon
I'm gonna throw on the fire here for lunch
yeah, just
spend the afternoon here around camping eventually, we'll get the wood stove going in the tent and
Call it an evening
Well, it's about that time
Temperature is really starting to drop fast inside and the sun is setting soon gonna be dark
I'm gonna get this wood stove going
Warm it up in here and
Soon be time to settle in for the evening
So I got craft dinner on the menu tonight. I had that smoked salmon over the campfire earlier. That was delicious
it's just gonna do a pack craft dinner and
Just kick back have a cup of coffee and relax for the evening
Well, we're settling to the tent for the evening here so
Dogs are pretty tired now goose is up on the cot with me there and Millie's just over behind the camera
Sleep on the little dog bed. I got made up there
Yeah, I just finished up supper and just been relaxing in the tent
Enjoying the heat from the wood stove
Loving this wood stove man. It's throwing it a ton of heat. Must be about 25 degrees or so in the tent here now
Yeah, stoves been working out great for me
That's about it for tonight guys. We're going to just relax boil the kettle and probably call it an early night
See you guys in the morning
Morning guys, so it is
637
Just waking up now
having a coffee
Stayed nice and warm all night fire burned right through the night. So
Yeah, I can get a good two three hours burn time out of this stove no problem
So that makes for a much better quality sleep
anyways
We're going to just have some coffee and breakfast and I'm gonna head down the trail there check those rabbit snares
Then we'll be calling back to camp and packing everything up heading back out the trail
Looks like a pretty good morning out there. It's cold. It's just outside with the dogs for a minute
Yeah, it's really cold, but no snow or anything
I think we are supposed to get some snow starting here a little bit later this morning, but
Hopefully I'll be able to get out ahead of it and get everything packed up before the snow starts, but we'll see. Oh
She's a chilly morning didn't realize how cold it was until I got inside the tent there
Yeah, she's pretty brisk
so it's gonna
Head in the trail now where we set our rabbit snares yesterday
Check those and take them up
and then I'll come back to camp here and
Pack up the rest of the gear
Start hiking out the trail call the trip nice morning. No
cold, but
It's a nice one. Oh
No luck so far
Looks like the rabbit actually come back here, but he went around this tree instead of going this way
Should have blocked that off I guess
Well, there's the last snare on this trail no luck
It's like the rabbit was here, but he found a way in around the snare there. So well, no luck guys
I've still got those two snares way out the trail that I set on the way in on the first day
So check those on the way out now. Those are fairly close out to the truck. So
We'll check those but no luck in these ones
Well, no luck in the last two rabbit snares either guys
Not even any fresh tracks around here
So I'll take these couple up
We'll carry on
Stopped for a little breather
So I only got a bit a half kilometer or so left to go now to be back out on the woods road
So I'm gonna call the video here. Thanks a lot for watching. Leave me a comment
