Well, tonight we're hearing from a man who says his father was aboard the
fishing vessel that overturned off the coast of Provincetown last week.
Truett Holcomb worked as a captain. His family says he was on board the Yankee
Rose when it capsized last Thursday. Boston 25 News reporter Michael Raimondi
is here in studio after speaking with his loved ones and Michael he is the
second victim now identified by family. Yeah and his friends say that everyone
called him Gene and we know that the fishing community around here
and especially down in New Bedford really is a big tight-knit group and
that strong bond between fishermen is really helping this grieving family.
A family devastated saying Truett Holcomb was one of two fishermen who
died when the Yankee Rose capsized off the coast of Provincetown on Thursday
He would give his shirt off of his back to somebody he didn't know. He was just
that type of person. He was a giver. Had a lot of love. I just wish I could be in a
room with him. The victim's son also named Truett Holcomb says everyone
called his dad Gene. He says Gene loved the sea and was a fisherman for 30 years.
That was bread and butter. That was something he always did. He's always
prided himself on being a captain and he would always call himself his work
nicknames outside of work like screaming Gene and stuff. Sherry Holcomb the
fisherman's wife shared a written statement with me saying he made people
laugh all the time and take the shirt off his back for anyone. Loved camping,
fishing, and riding his motorcycle. He was my rock, my soulmate for life. He
would pay for a veteran's meal or elderly couple's meal when we were out
dinner ourselves. Just one of a kind, lovely man. You will never find another
like him. What I'm going to miss the most is just his voice because he really
was just an all around good dude. Truett lives in Washington state so it's been
tough for him being so far away but all the kind words from other fishermen
around Massachusetts has helped him through this tragedy. It's probably one
of the only things that's actually bringing me comfort about this whole
situation. It made it easier to process just by all the posts, all the comments.
It's nice to know he was loved and cherished out there. Another fisherman was
recovered from the water. Holcomb was not found and crew suspended the search a
day after the Yankee Rose overturned. The Coast Guard has not shared what
caused that boat to capsize. We'll let you know as soon as we find out.
Reporting live in studio tonight I'm Michael Raimondi for your local station
