Driving My New Race Car For The First Time!

Well guys we just made it here to Roseville, California We are at Bill McAnally shop and this shop is really cool. It's also combined with the Napa Auto Care Center So we're gonna head inside. I'm gonna show you guys around and get fitted in some of my cars So now that we're at the shop I need to get fit in this car So we're testing it tomorrow and then we're also racing it at the first race at Kern So this is the car we got this nice Napa Auto Care scheme on it It looks really good very nostalgic very brings me back to many years ago with Bill So I'm gonna throw my suit on we're gonna sit in seat make sure everything feels good. It's good. We're ready to go test I got my seats actually my old seats for my truck and Xfinity stuff So I got those we're gonna fit in everything should be pretty close, but just final touches on it Obviously, I haven't been here in like eight years. So I need to make sure everything's good feels right fits, right? It's gonna be different than being in the IndyCar stuff. Now, it's gonna be totally different fit I'll probably be more comfortable because I only did the Indy stuff for a year. So I'll probably feel like back at home Have to jump in the car anymore and step over the giant halo deal So the pedals aren't aren't horrible they definitely could come closer Yeah, okay Yeah wheels a little high Oh, yeah, it's offset to the right, uh-huh It feels so good to be back in like a full body car Yeah, what time are we starting at 10 You were there that year we took the rental cars out Sonoma, right and we got in massive trouble They were so mad We caused havoc it was me Derek Krause and one of our other teammates. We were full-on racing the rental cars at Sonoma. It was bad Just good. They thought it's fatter than I was so the belts we got tight We were just locked out birthday No one told me I didn't see the punch code deal and I never asked for access codes We were locked out for a second, but we just made it here to Kern County I am so excited. I got I we ordered a smoothie on the way here. Uber eats the smoothie Um, I didn't expect it to be like a whole like big gulp drink From the gas station. This thing's massive. I I've been drinking it last 20 minutes over here. I've not made very much progress But we are driving in and gonna start tested We start testing in about an hour and a half So we're gonna get like everything done everything unloaded check out the track haven't been here in eight years So it's it's cool to see it all again. I don't remember any of this I just got informed that we can take the rental car out on the racetrack last time We did this at Sonoma. We got yelled at but it is our rental day at the track So it should be all good. So we're gonna take the rental car out go check everything out again Looks just like iRacing Damn I forgot how big it was. There's my teammate So I remember Well, this is actually like super for being a short track like this place is very very nice It's a very big track like you could totally I feel like race trucks here right here. Here's my mark You want to start breaking anywhere in between the end of this fence line and kind of this to deal depending on how deep you are Me I'll be at the one The door is a little janky Well, I haven't had a chance to get my helmet painted yet Since we started testing like so early and like my design got approved It's just been like a little bit late and so I didn't get a chance to get this helmet painted Like the test kept getting pushed. It's like everything was like like put getting pushed back So I had chase since he owns a wrap shop put me off some monster stickers that we're gonna throw on So, oh no, do you think it's right? I don't think it's too small. You don't think so You told me to stick the top. So where should we stick? Like right there. What do you think like under this dot? We're gonna go out in this car first, this is my Phoenix car We're just gonna shake it down and make sure like nothing's in the track. Nothing weird is going on So we're gonna do that for about 10 laps run old tires on this get me back comfortable And then we're going to switch over to my current car that I'll be racing in a week Overall I felt like the front turned pretty good. It's pretty positive It's a little low for you off like yeah, I was impressed off before but like Other than that, I thought it was pretty good. It's the same thing while I drive Okay But this is our Phoenix car just got done shaking it down actually felt really good It's hard to tell set up wise what it should be Since we're not at Phoenix Phoenix is way bigger than current stuff, but it's on a current gear So I felt like I was hanging the chips at the right a chip at the right point So like that means my speed was okay handling wise it felt good. Oh good for current, but this ain't my current car. So Under the current car as we just took a little lunch break, I feel nice fat and happy at the moment I had a sandwich. It was really good But now we're gonna go out in the current car This is one We're actually really gonna take some time and work on it and really tune it in because we're gonna be bringing this car back to Race for the first race. So we do have a new set of tires I'm gonna go out on the older set to just make sure like nothing's dragging on it Nothing falls off like make sure she's all good get that all squared away This is a newly built car And then we're gonna throw some new tires on it and hammer down On some changes to get this thing tuned into my liking stuff. We'll hop in we're gonna get after I Just got the car again We did like a little we put new tires on and we did like a mock qualifying run and it was so good Like I end up running so like the time I was shooting for I end up running a tenth faster than the pole lap time Here last year, so really really good a car handled great. It was a tick on the tight side But for me when I qualify I like being like one number on the tight side It gives me like security so I feel like I can maximize myself without having to worry about the car stepping out on me But overall really good like that was a really good mock run. So I'm super happy with it We're gonna do another long run right now before we before we call it a day We only got like 30 more minutes left of the track rental. So it's going great. I'm having so much fun This is a blast for me just came back in a stock car and like driving driving like the hell out of it It's it's a blast Well guys are officially done here for the day Really really good test day Everything was great on the Phoenix car felt all good as good as it can be for the Phoenix set of being on current. So Everything ran super smoothly and then we got to the current car ran on some old tires Was honestly not bad on old tires at all Had like a Killer mock run like everything went so perfect end up super fast So really really happy with that and then we ended up just finishing with a long run like a 20 lap run to see how It was with tire fall off and everything and honestly, that was probably one of the most neutral falling off cars I've ever had like it didn't lose the front It didn't lose the rear like it didn't start getting free or circling tight on me. It's just like gradually Neutrally lost grip, which is great. Like that's the most you can ask for out of a race car So if we were to take this car and show up to current with it in a week, I would be super happy So that's kind of our plan. We're gonna make a baseline and some changes we can make at the track So whether it could be different but overall great first test a great great day back in a stock car Like really couldn't be any better.
