Now we learn how to greet people in Italian
Let's go
We begin with the word we all know ciao used to
greet people both when arriving and when leaving
One thing not everyone knows about the word ciao is that it can't always be used
In formal situations such as when checking into a hotel it's better
to say good morning during the day or good evening in the evening
Then when leaving if the situation is informal you
can say hello and if it's formal you can say goodbye
Then when it's time to sleep you can say good night
Mom if all this is too complicated there's a very useful word: hello
This word can be used in formal situations regardless of the time of day
When you meet someone for the first time you can say nice to meet you
Oh if it's a formal situation nice to meet you
Alternatively if you don't want to worry about choosing between
formal and informal you can simply say "pleasure" in any situation
To say your name at school we learn to say mi chiamo my name is
But when you meet someone it's much more natural
simply to say I am rather than saying my name is
When you meet a friend you can ask them how you're doing which is like
saying how are you or how's it going which is like saying how's it going
How are you
In my part it's said how you are
How are you
How's it going
If you want to ask the same question in a formal situation you can say how are you (formal)
How are you
Everyone has their own way of greeting friends
It's cute though it's a youthful way of
speaking shall we say Of course you're carefree
No I always greet with "ciao " actually no— it 's
"ciao" with a longer "o" sound than the rest
Perhaps down south we use forms that are a bit more how should I put it closer to the dialectal
That kind of "we " like "we " "we'll get together " which isn't used up here in the north
