For the fourth time this season and the third in just six breathless weeks,
Arsenal lock horns with Chelsea. The Blues last Emirates Stadium visit guaranteed Arsenal a
Wembley return in the Carabao Cup. This afternoon it could see the Gunners re-establish their
five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table. Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 10
meetings with Chelsea across all competitions. In fact, the Blues have left North London
empty-handed in seven of their last nine here, including each of the last four. With a full week
between games, Mikel Arteta can name the same 11 that ran riots in the North London derby.
So that means Bereza and Victor Llorez both start following their starring roles
at the other end of Seven Sisters Road. The one change to the matchday squad sees Kai Havertz
come back in following four games on the sidelines. He replaces Martin Odegaard,
who drops out of the 20-man group. After using a 3-5-2 on his last Emirates visit,
Liam Rosellia reverts to a back four this afternoon. He is without Wesley Kofana and
Marku Kurea, so Mamadou Sarr and Gerald Harto both come into defence. Paul Palmer starts against
Arsenal for just the third time. Chelsea's number 10 has four goals in his last three Premier League
games. Mamadou Sarr, third appearance for the Blues this afternoon. Oh, and that was Sanchez
who was caught in possession and Arsenal were very nearly in there inside the opening five minutes
of this game and a bit of shakiness from the Chelsea back line. Yeah, do you know what,
Sanchez has got that in him, he's got that extra touch. I think Chelsea are very,
very lucky to get away with that one. Away by Saliba. Ezer in a pocket of space and going for
goal. Spotted Sanchez a long way off his line. The Arsenal fans felt that that went out and it
should be an Arsenal corner. Yeah, it's a decent effort there from Ezer from distance from the
halfway line. He's obviously done his homework. Sanchez very, very high, just unfortunately
didn't have enough power on it. Timber for Llores. Timber's continued his run into a crossing
position. Zoubamendi the furthest forward for Arsenal who do win a corner. Yeah, Timber's done
superb there down the right-hand side. If he just executes that pass there, it's a good block in all
fairness but it's good work from him there. He loves to get forward, he's got good quality when
he goes forward as well. Corner comes in from Saka, deep delivery towards Gabriel and flicks in
and William Saliba will run away and claim the plaudits. It is Saliba who sorge and Arsenal
have the breakthrough against the Blues. What a superb corner. It's a great area to hit but I
think Gabriel there far post, he's done so well. Climbing to the top of two Chelsea players.
Saliba in the six-yard box in the right place at the right time with a nice easy header.
But what a time for him to score his first of the season. Final touch coming off Mamadou Sarr.
Another corner coaxed in by James, flicked on at the near post and Ryan needs to
throw out a poor and make another excellent stop from point blank range.
That's a superb save. Might even be Declan Rice at that near post. Short option goes towards that
near post. In from James and it's been flicked in and it may have even come off. An Arsenal player
last. Wish James would celebrate with those Chelsea fans. But it looks like that final touch
came off Pierro Hincapie at the near post. We're all square here in North London.
Crew away from Harto, able to get the shot off. It may fall for Timber. Sanchez came out to punch.
Hooked back goalwards by Gabriel. But it's a simple catch for the Spaniard who is able to atone
for a pretty strange decision on his part. Yeah I think he could have collected that quite easily.
Yeah I think the goalkeeper catches that one but he's decided to punch it which is a danger.
João Pedro finding Enzo Fernandes. No stop down to his right by Raya denies the Argentine
had to be alert and he was the Arsenal keeper. Yeah it was a good strong hand there. Arsenal seem to
be all over the place a little bit here. Too much space in midfield areas. He's driven forward. It's
from distance. He's hit it early. It's fairly comfortable for Abbie. He's got to save it.
It is where those Chelsea players begin to move towards. Flicked on by Chalabert.
And Raya was able to hold. Again it's a decent set piece. Good flick on near post.
Couldn't quite generate enough power to hit the back of the net.
Culled in by Declan Rice. And Chalabert with a really important header there.
Do you know when he's first hit that superb ball in. Almost spot on. It's a great area.
Sanchez got to come for it. Rice's delivery again. And Arsenal have it in again.
Jurien Timber takes control of the London derby. Another set piece. Another struggle for Sanchez.
Another chance for Arsenal to assert their dominance in the Premier League. Timber in
the right area at the right time to get a good finish. And Arsenal needed that. That was up
against it a little bit for the first part of the second half. But these set pieces have really
proven to be superb now with the delivery and the execution of it all. In the immediate aftermath
of that Pedro Neto was booked for demonstrating with Darren England. Swung in this time from the
right hand side. Martinelli gives chase. Martinelli has the pace. Getting there ahead of Neto. Does he
fancy his chances up against the Portuguese? Who has been booked. Martinelli was ready to play on.
And just like that Chelsea have another player sent off this season. For the second time this
term they are reduced to 10 against Arsenal. I think the referee's got the decision right. But
again I don't think he has to stop it. I think he can let it go. Martinelli's in. Arsenal are
committed bodies forward. It's their ninth red card of the season. Gusto gives it to Havertz.
Saka. There's Ezer. A beret Ezer. Zubamendi back across the face of goal and just couldn't direct
it. But what a chance for Ezer to light up another London derby. Yeah there's a great little touch
inside from Saka just to set Ezer on his way. I think he's done everything right here. He's set
the goalkeeper up. It's a good save. Gusto surging forward from fullback. Garnaccio ahead of him. Here
is the Argentine. His ball in. It is clawed away by David Raya. And it was a save the Spaniard
desperately needed to make because that was heading into the far corner. What a superb save.
It's gone for a few bodies there. Just waiting for that feint. It's the touches but Raya's read it.
Eventually it is hoisted up there and Joao Pedro's in. And Raya will save again. But it's been tapped
in by Delap. And it will be ruled out. Much to the relief of 60,000 inside the Emirates. It is
being checked by John Brooks on VAR. Yeah he's definitely offside there. Fortunately for Arsenal
it's a great overhead kick. But Raya's done superb there. Double save. For Arsenal a little bit lucky
to get away with that one. His last last little part of the game. Joao Pedro had gone slightly
too early. And Liam Delap is denied his second Premier League goal for Chelsea. The Gunners pass
another massive test this season to restore their five-point lead in the Premier League title race.
Admittedly they were restricted and frustrated by a compact Chelsea side this afternoon. But they
were able to find a way through. And they have their defenders to thank for it too.
On to Brighton next in midweek as it finishes here at Emirates Stadium. Arsenal 2 Chelsea 1.
