"Commentator Wang Youqun pointed out that since the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party, 18 full generals have been officially declared to have “fallen from grace.” Apart from Zhang Youxia, however, the arrest procedures of the other 17 have never been made public. They all “disappeared” first, and only afterward did a Ministry of National Defense spokesperson announce that they were under investigation for “serious violations of discipline and the law.”
The CCP speaks of “governing the country according to law,” yet the public has no idea when these individuals were placed under detention, when they were formally arrested, when they were prosecuted, tried, or sentenced, whether they were allowed to hire defense lawyers, or whether they were subjected to forced confessions. The outside world knows almost nothing.
