Introverted Brick House with Private Courtyard & Living Tree | Shell

SHELL is a contemporary patio house designed by Bezmirno, conceived as a protective architectural shield for modern family life. From the street, the house appears monolithic and restrained, clad in long-format brick that expresses permanence, privacy, and quiet strength.

Inside, however, the concept reveals its paradox: transparent privacy. Instead of opening outward to the city, panoramic glazing faces a secluded inner courtyard built around a living tree — the spiritual and spatial core of the home. This strategy transforms nature into an intimate interior experience while maintaining complete seclusion from the urban environment.

The ground floor flows as an open-plan living, dining, and kitchen zone without rigid partitions, while corridors become light-filled galleries rather than mere circulation paths. The entire upper level is dedicated to private retreat spaces, including a master suite and a panoramic bathroom overlooking the forest.

Materiality defines the emotional tone: textured brick establishes rhythm and shadow, natural wood introduces warmth and tactility, and expansive glass dissolves boundaries between inside and patio. The result is a living minimalism — refined yet deeply human — where architecture filters noise, frames light, and restores calm within its protective stone shell.
