Hi I'm Robert from Gold Point Props.
In this video we'll be building the Hylian Shield from the Zelda franchise.
I started out by tracing the basic shape onto 12 gauge aluminum sheet.
The next step I put a rule in the aluminum sheet.
Now I'm using an air saw to cut out the basic shape.
Here I am marking out the inside detail.
Then I used a drill and the air saw to cut out the center.
This piece will make up the polished border of the shield.
For this part of the shield I'll be making an aluminum cast.
So I'm using modeling clay to outline the shape.
Next I fill the clay with body filler.
Once the body filler cures I will shape it into the mold that will make up our aluminum
casting.
The next few steps will be showing you how we did the sand molding process.
Now that our mold is ready we then smelted the aluminum and poured it into our mold.
Now that the aluminum has cooled I demolded the piece then used a bandsaw to cut away
the excess aluminum.
After doing that I used a grinder and a sander block to sand the pieces smooth for polishing.
In the next few steps I'll be marking and cutting out the rest of the detail that goes
onto the face of the shield.
Now I'm drilling holes so I can plug weld the pieces into place.
Once all the pieces were welded into place I then cut the shield into shape.
Here I'm drilling holes in all four layers that will make up the shield so we can rivet
them together which I'll be doing later on in the video.
This piece here will make up the back part of the shield.
Here I am welding on studs which will help keep all the pieces aligned when I assemble
the shield later on in the video.
Now I'm drilling holes so we can attach our cast aluminum pieces.
The next few steps I'll be showing you how I made the handle.
I used a grinder, the punch, and the sheet metal brick to form the handle.
Remember them studs I welded on earlier, here is where they'll help out.
Now that all the pieces are lined up I weld the stud permanently holding all the pieces
into place.
I also used the studs to attach the handle.
Now I'm cutting a couple pieces of rod that will hold the forearm strap in place.
I'll be painting the shield before we attach the polished outer trim.
Now that the paint job is done we'll be riveting the shield together.
Now I'm adding a couple more details that will finish up the shield.
And with that done here is the finished piece.
