join us today as I spend the day with my son 19 year old son Wyatt, head to guitar center and try to craft a thermion to his guitar.
Look at this. A dad that can fix stuff. Unbelievable.
It just hit me right in the nuts!
What's up, everybody? How's it going? Welcome to the vlog. Hope you guys are doing good.
Today on the vlog, I'm picking up my son, Wyatt. I hope you guys are really...
Thanks so much for all the... We are trying. To be honest, it's... I don't know if I'll be
able to keep it up, but I'm trying to keep it up. And so far, we had one week of it,
and that's good stuff. Today, we're picking up my son, Wyatt. We're going to go to Guitar Center.
He's making an album. And he's making a solo album. So he's been working on that.
And hopefully... Yeah. And so today, we're going to go to Guitar Center, get what he needs.
And then we're going to go to our friend's workshop or studio or... What is it? A workshop?
Yeah, we're going to go to my friend's workshop, and we're going to try to take his theremin
and turn it into a guitar. So sort of a niche idea today. If you're into theremins,
this is the video for you. If you're into music, this is probably the video for you.
For 95% of the audience, they're probably going, what's a theremin?
I have this tiny theremin I found on eBay. I like glued it to my guitar,
kind of, and it didn't really work. And then I just started playing shows and swinging it
around my head while I play guitar, so that my hand moving back and forth would be hitting the
theremin up in the air. I think we're going to try to deconstruct it and build it into a pickup
cover. And then have it kind of come out of the guitar, kind of, so then it's all one piece.
What was your favorite moment of playing shows last year in New York?
One time after the show, they were like, you get this drink ticket, and you can get as many drinks
as you want. And I had four Shirley Temples. That was your favorite moment? I thought you
were going to say like, yo, we opened for this band, and that was great. I played really well.
That's where I got the four Shirley Temples. Infinite Shirley Temple.
How was the Shirley Temple as far as Shirley Temples go?
It was pretty good for a free Shirley Temple. Yeah. It was really funny. I was watching Larry
David last night in an interview, and he has some of the same mannerisms as you.
As me? Yeah. It's probably because I've watched so much.
Maybe, maybe. He kind of like talks with his hands, and he sits cross-legged, and
he's kind of thoughtful, you know. That's interesting. I don't know. Maybe I'm crazy.
Maybe it's just that you're my two favorite people, and I'm trying to draw a parallel.
No, no. I bet I stole some by accident.
Remember we tried to make this mural come alive?
Oh yeah, make the mural come alive. We were there for like 10 minutes, and we
couldn't get it to go. Is that what you need? If we take the strings off the guitar.
I'm trying to find a pickup cover for a Fender guitar. Do you know where I could find that?
Oh, thank you. I love coming in the guitar center for a little.
Hi, I was just looking. I was wondering if you guys had like a pickup cover type of thing for a
Fender guitar. Not a pickup, like a pickup cover, like the metal thing that kind of arcs over.
Oh my god. What?
Do you know somebody? No, I didn't. I thought I did.
You thought it was your friend?
It does look like him. I was about to jump on him.
Jump on your drummer?
I was gonna like just bring the thing over, like tackle him.
What do you think of that phrase when people go, my drummer?
It's always like a little, it sounds a little egotistical. My drummer, my guitars.
I know, I've said it before, and then I don't say it again.
Yeah, you don't?
Yeah, like I like.
Yeah, my drummer. You don't own him.
It's easier to say our drummer or I'm in the band with him.
He plays drums. It takes more words.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Or actually what I say, I say this is my friend because we're friends first.
Because it's more than just business.
I'm mic'd up right now.
Are you really?
Yeah, he mic'd me up.
That's pretty cool.
It's got to go the other way.
I'm almost mic'd up.
Is that Jesus?
Yeah, that is Jesus.
That is Jesus.
Oh, what a workshop.
What's up?
Wow, she's beat up.
I'm not beat up.
No?
No.
She's taking a beating.
No, no, that's me. I taped that on there.
If we can fit it under there.
Let's see. Oh, yeah, I see what you mean.
If we fit it there, I think that'd be.
That's not ideal. I'm thinking what if we, we might have to put it like just down here.
Oh, that'd be pretty cool.
So that's kind of out of the way.
Yeah, but that also could be where the jack goes.
But yeah, it could go. Oh, then it could go right next to the jack, which would be really easy.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that'd be really good.
Should I start taking this stuff off now, probably?
What's it called? Guga?
It's easy going, yeah.
Guga.
It sounds like something my grandma would know just trying to say something normal.
Like.
You need that.
Go to Walmart.
You need a Guga.
It's like how your grandma would say Google.
What are we looking on a time thing here?
We're looking at like till it's dark or.
Oh, really?
Because I got to pick up Charlie.
I mean, listen, that's the way it goes, man.
No, no, it's okay.
It's what I do.
Just leave you here.
Yeah, you can do that.
That's okay.
Okay.
You know they have a pool table at their house?
They do?
Okay, Charlie can Uber.
I'm kidding.
Oh, man.
I love pool.
Pool's my favorite.
Wyatt likes pool too.
This socket looks really disappointed.
Disappointed socket.
That's the most disappointed socket I've seen.
Here's my impression of this socket.
Ready?
Go.
It looks like you really have to ----.
Can I stop now?
It's like do the position again.
It looks like if I was a parent and I turned around and saw you and you were my toddler,
I'd be like he just ---- himself.
It's like I feel like you know a kid just ---- himself when it's like.
You see them go from like full conversation like.
Or their face will just slowly change.
I was actually just telling my dad it's probably one of my top 10 favorite songs ever.
What song?
Trust Me by The Streets.
Streets is a British rapper.
British rapper.
Yeah.
He talks like this and he talks like that and he raps and he raps and he raps and he raps.
If you look him up on Google.
You said that kind of like.
He's a lyricist.
You said that kind of like Alexa.
The Streets that is a British rapper.
He kind of just talks over beats.
Yeah trust me.
But I mean that song is like.
Always going downtown and roll around doing my thing.
Pretty accurate.
Getting a little nibble in here.
Really making some progress here.
Something's happening.
Something's definitely happening.
Something might be happening.
So this we can definitely shape that.
This will be a much tighter fit.
Do you mean shape the woodblock to me?
Wyatt answer his question it's a good one.
I'm thinking.
Because I agree like what's happening.
Have you seen someone do this yet?
I'm in my brain.
Yo one time when Wyatt was like eight.
He came home and he was like.
I want to make a perpetual motion.
I didn't know about it.
And I was like cool.
And then I found out like three weeks later.
No one's ever done it.
And I'm going.
I'm buying stuff at the hardware store.
I'm like it's going to be fun.
I was really confident in that.
And I went over to your house.
And you had a prototype.
Yes and you were like.
Yes and you were working on it.
Gene's like when I got back.
She's like what's going on with Jason.
Working on a perpetual motion machine.
We're going to be billionaires.
And you said it's you know.
It's a long shot.
Like so far it's a paper plate.
God bless you.
Which leads us to the next question.
Has someone done this before?
This?
Yeah.
No.
No one has done.
Someone must have done it.
I don't think there's.
I mean.
I also remember I was really stressed out.
Because I remember I was like pivoting on it.
Because I was in like sixth grade.
And I was like your whole life.
And I was like okay.
If I make the professional motion machine.
Everyone's going to be like this guy is sick.
And then I can get into all these places.
But then.
But then I can just do the music.
And I'll already.
And then I'll already.
Like I can go to MIT or something.
With the perpetual motion machine.
Right.
You wouldn't have to.
You skipped college when you invented.
And then I was like shoot.
How am I.
How would I get in now.
And then I was like.
Oh I don't want to do that.
Can you make it any louder?
Is that max?
That's.
Maybe like.
So there's some way to have it.
Yeah.
That's interesting.
Yeah.
That's that's that's awesome.
That's what I'm going for.
Yeah.
The wow wow.
Yeah.
Like imagine that.
Imagine he plays a song.
And at the very end of the song.
He he turns that on.
Yeah.
That would be sick.
