Scarlett Johansson wins the Leading Actress award in 2004

They all deserve it, but the BAFTA goes not for a girl with a pearl earring, but for her performance in Lost in Translation. Scarlett Johansson. Oh my god, this was really unexpected. I would like to thank the British Academy for recognizing me as a 19-year-old American actress. It's such an honor to be here, and first and foremost, I'd like to thank Sofia Coppola for writing and directing an incredible film that I'm so proud to be a part of, and to Ross Katz and everybody at Universal Focus for working so hard to get people to see this movie. To my agent, Scott Lambert, who I unfortunately love very much, and to mostly my mother, Melanie, for supporting me and for being there for me and taking me to auditions and buying me hot dogs afterwards. And I know I'm forgetting, oh, and to Bill Murray for being on the other side of the camera. Thank you very much. It is an honor.
